  1. Nice work so far Alan......looks like you're making some progress.....
  2. Man....that sounded loud Alan....... I'm guessing you'll be putting SOME silencing on it?.....
  3. Nice job there Mintex.......
  4. Just try not to get too worked up about it Luke.......your life doesn't depend on you passing......so, as Bogof has said, treat it like any other ride out......
  5. Hey Dazzled.....keep the pics and the progress coming......be nice to see the old girl back on the road again in all her glory......
  6. OK Will, if the plug is wet then you can assume that you are getting fuel into the combustion chamber......so, if it won't fire it is likely to be no or a weak spark.....or no compression. Take the plug out and put your finger over the hole and spin the engine.....there should be enough pressure to push past your finger.....if not, then you may have a problem with piston/rings. The other thing to check is to take the plug out......put the old plug in its place and with the new plug in the plug cap put the body of the plug to suitable metal surface on the bike and spin the motor and look for a spark across the gap......just be careful when doing this to hold the plug to the metalwork with something that is suitably insulated so's not to get a shock...... If you don't get a decent spark then you could have a problem with the plug cap/HT lead/coil etc......
  7. After spinning it over like that remove the plug and see if it is wet.....if it is, then you have fuel getting into the combustion chamber....so that would point to spark or compression as the problem.... But if the plug is dry it would point to fuelling. Does the bike have a fuel tap? Is this working correctly? Is there an inline filter in the fuel line? Is this clear? Try starting the bike with the Filler cap removed in case the tank breather is blocked......a few things for you to be getting on with.....

    Seat recover

Fitted Gel pad and seat cover this afternoon......a GOOD staple gun is the key......oh, and plenty of patience.......

    mapping

Yeah, I've seen the guide and a few Youtube vids.....but I wondered if I took it to someone who really knew what they were about with suspension it could save some of the experimentation.....
  10. I guess this isn't helping Alex too much is it?....... And I dearly wanted to put......2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th.....which is also equally unhelpful....

No Stu....not thinking of getting mine done......I do it for nowt with Tune ECU..... But I am thinking of getting a suspension set-up done before the summer if I can......
  12. Only 1 spare room Stu?.......where are we going to park the bikes then?.....

    Seat recover

I've not done it yet....but I have a 2nd hand seat, gel pad and new Leather seat cover lined up ready for when I get time. I think that as long as you have a staple gun and a bit of patience it should be easy enough.....

    Main Fuse?

Sounds like it mate.....but as Colin has said carry a few spares just in case......and don't forget they're in there....
  18. Could have been a blocked jet that stopped it in the first place.....then the misaligned needle after it was stripped and cleaned prevented it from working after that...... Good Luck for the morning Tiggie....hope that's it sorted.....
  19. I may have miss-read the original post, but I was under the impression it wouldn't start after the carb had been stripped and cleaned? I'm guessing that the carb was stripped because of the problem.....but I'm guessing.....
  20. Not always sometimes they run off one coil and both plugs will spark at the same time but they are timed so you have a wasted spark on the cylinder thats not firing just like on IL4 with two coils although majority of Vtwins have 2 coils Wasted spark is usually on parallel twins or IL4's as you can have one piston on the compression stroke while the other is on the exhaust stroke.....but I guess it depends on the crank angle on a V-twin if you have both pistons rising at the same time? Just thought that V-twins generally didn't have the 2 pistons rising at the same time.......or maybe I dreamt that......
  21. TBH....my Sprint ST tends to knock if I'm not gentle with the throttle in the lower gears......just kinda adapted my riding on this bike to smooth out things at lower speeds........ Anyway....tomorrow you may have an answer......

    Main Fuse?

Well....there's one way to check if it was just an aged fuse.......
  23. My thoughts as well, although I did check the chain slack before I left with me sitting on the bike, 30mm exactly, had a friend measure it, so it was "within" spec. Did you check the chain tension in more than one point along the chain?....could have tight and looser spots along its length......
  24. I thought about the coil Stu....but I'm guessing as it's a V-twin it'll have 2 coils?
  25. Others have suggested checking the Cush Drive rubbers....and I'd agree with that also.......oil been changed recently?......can make a difference to gearbox noise if it's changed regularly......
