  1. Nice one Alan....glad the project is moving along..... Looking forward to following the build on this mate....

    mapping

Unless the manufacturer of the exhaust states that no re-mapping is required you could end up with all sorts of stuff going on.....flat spots, cr*p fuel consumption, reduction in power, etc.... I'd be inclined to check on a Gixxer forum and see if anyone has the same can and if they got the bike re-mapped......
  3. That's the point really......if you have 12v on the battery with the ignition off but it drops to a couple of volts or less when you turn the ignition on it suggests that the battery is either not charged or is faulty. When you say you can start the bike by bumping it do the lights come on then? If so, there's no fuse problem.....just a discharged or duff battery..... Try charging the battery overnight and see what happens tomorrow.....
  4. As Bogof says......check the lids on the Sharp website....not all 4 and 5 star rated lids cost the earth.....
  5. Depends on the crash.... Fit is probably more important than anything else when buying a lid......too loose and it could come off in a smash....too tight and you'll get headaches which can distract you when riding..... Always, Always try a lid on before buying....just coz you always take a medium doesn't mean that all medium lids fit the same.....
  6. First check the battery voltage with the ignition off.......should be 12.5v approx......then turn the ignition on (I'm guessing that the lights should come on also) and the voltage should drop slightly....but no less than 12v. Then start the bike and measure the voltage......should be >13v especially if you rev the bike to around 3000rpm. The main thing is that if the battery is good and charged it shouldn't drop below 12v when you switch the ignition on....well, not immediately anyway. Obviously with no charge going into the battery without the motor running the voltage will drop gradually...but it shouldn't collapse as soon as you put a load on it.....
  7. A voltage check can give an indication how much charge is in the battery.....but remember that it will possibly show 12v off load......so check it when on the bike and then switch the ignition on and see if the voltage drops.....which would indicate low charge......
  8. Charging time depends on how much charge is left in the battery......which sounds like not a lot from what you've said....... Batteries will discharge even without anything connected to them.....so if your new battery has been sat on a shelf somewhere for a few months it could well have lost its charge.....
  9. Some new batteries need charging before you use them......so it may be just a case of charging the battery......
  10. Does your bike need a remap for the new exhaust anyway? Without the Lambda sensor the bike will use the map loaded....the Lambda sensor gives feedback on the O2 levels in the exhaust and the ECU will alter the fuelling to keep the O2 levels correct. But my understanding is that these changes are normally quite small. I don't know how it works on Honda's....but if you check out the Triumph RAT forum there's some fairly extensive info on Lamda sensors and ECU set-ups. It's quite common on Triumphs to remove the Lambda sensors and SAI and run custom maps when fitting aftermarket exhausts....which often have the Lambda malfunction warning signal disabled....
  11. 120 000km? is this a typo or has it really done this mileage? If it has covered that mileage you could be looking at loss of compression due to needing a rebore......or at least piston rings. Can you check the compression? If the bike revs to 4000rpm when cold with the choke on and after a bit drops, that could be that the engine doesn't need that rich mixture and is starting to flood.......take the choke off a bit. Actually....thinking about it.....have you replaced or at least checked the Plug Cap and HT lead?......possibly the coil too? Backfiring is often due to unburnt fuel in the exhaust igniting. Just my thoughts mate.......

    M&P direct

You could try your Kwaka dealer....but M&P will probably be cheaper as they supply pattern parts..... Wemoto is another site that can supply pattern parts....so you may want to check them out too....

    Oil Leak

Could have been a bit of muck on the seal that you've now cleaned off...... Anyway, as you say, if it's stopped leaking and there's no sign of any cracks or anything then jobs a good'un.......

    M&P direct

Yeah, I think they're OK. Bought stuff off them at bike shows before...but never online....but they've been around a while, so should be reliable.....

    wont turn over

Could be stuck clutch plates.......put the bike into gear and rock it forwards and backwards.....
  16. I don't know for sure mate....but you'll need a license. Now, as you can ride mopeds from 16 years I'm guessing that license would be good for the Theory test....but I would phone the test centre to make sure first if I were you.....

    Lights

Sorry mate, I was laughing when I read this thread. BonnieBird's daughter has an old CG125......and the lights go from faint yellow glow on tickover to "look, I can nearly see the road" when revved.... Pitiful is an understatement for CG lights...... Anyway....yes the will get "brighter" when you rev the engine..... A mate of mine had an old car back in the day that the windscreen wipers got faster as the engine revs rose.......
  18. I wondered how long it would be Alan before the bug bit you again...... Good luck with the build.....expecting a proper build thread when you get all the bits together mate.....
  19. When someone said that motorcycling can damage your hearing I really didn't think like this.......
  20. Had the chain snap on my old Bonneville many years back....wasn't a pleasant experience...... Glad you found it before it caused you some real grief......
  21. But a new lid need not cost the earth.....and fit is more important than anything else..... Check out the Sharp website and see how many cheaper lids fall into the 4 & 5 star category......check the following as an example....http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/testsratings/duchinni-d701
  22. Gotta agree with the above comments......I have in the past bought 2nd hand lids.....but I've seen the light and wouldn't risk it any more......
  23. I'm not sure about GPS tracking.......my company has fitted trackers in all the engineers cars (including mine) and I've heard that in the event of an accident the Police can demand tracking information to determine speed etc..... Not sure if this is true.....but I've heard it from several sources.....verbal sources....before anyone starts demanding links.....
  24. Deffo with Colin on this one......check terminals for tightness and/or corrosion....a few minutes work could save you several quid.....
  25. Just putting this date up here for all that may be interested. BMF Show at Peterborough Showground Friday 17th to Sunday 19th May 2013. Not sure what we are doing yet as the Tailender was a bit of a disappointment....but we normally camp on the Friday & Saturday nights so we can make full use of the beer and entertainment. If anyone is going and wants to arrange a meetup then stick it on here...... Anyone who is new to biking and hasn't heard of this event.....it's probably one of the best places to get cheap bike gear there is....plus bikey entertainment and live bands and beer in the evenings if you stay.....
