Six30 Posted June 14, 2016 Author Posted June 14, 2016 Exiting may bring down rental values and house prices.. This has got to be a good thing ...unless your a landlord with a few properties relying on them for your pension .

Mr Fro Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 My vote is cast! Just popped it in the pillar box.I'll try to keep up with the poll but... well, I'll probably be to rum soaked to care by that point.
MarkW Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 (edited) I was talking to my brother-in-law over the weekend, who spouts the standard misinformed drivel about 'taking back control of our country from unelected bureaucrats'.You can explain until you're blue in the face that the Commission (which is unelected) can only propose laws but has no powers to pass or reject them - it's only the Parliament and the Council that can do that, both of which are democratically elected; you can explain that the system is essentially the same as it is in the UK, with unelected civil servants doing the drafting and the democratically elected politicians doing the voting; you can explain that almost all EU law is based on consensus, and that we have supported 97% of it over the last 6 years, and that when it does go to a vote we have been on the winning side about 87% of the time; you can explain that of the 13% of votes we 'lost' a good many of them were things we voted against for the purposes of domestic consumption as they had no impact on us whatsoever (several Member States are notorious for doing this, so saying we were 'overruled' 13% of the time is disingenuous); you can even explain that one of the biggest criticisms of some of the new legislation in my industry is that it delegates too much power to individual Member States, and that what we really need is everyone nailed down more firmly. It makes no difference. "Take back control! Take back control! We want our country back!" Edited June 15, 2016 by MarkW

Do you get the feeling that this vote is going to be one of those rare occasions when the Democratic process is going to be the downfall of a country?
Joeman Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Yep because democracy assumes a certain level of intelligence for it to work. The net outcome will always be dragged down by the idiots and morons. There should be a way for filter them out!
RantMachine Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 There should be a short multiple choice test...Each ballot paper has 10 questions at the top about core issues relating to the matter in hand, each has one answer that's fairly obvious to anyone that has even vaguely bothered to read about the issue and three fake ones that will stick out like a sore thumb to anyone who knows even the slightest hint of the truth. Representatives of the two sides of the debate get to submit 5 of the 10 questions each, but the answers will be independently researched and based on hard fact so that there's no bias.Answer the questions on your ballot before ticking the boxes at the bottom and sticking it in the box, if you get less than 7 right your ballot goes in the bin instead of being counted

Grumpy Old Git Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Can we have 51 questions? The 'new' one is: "Do you want free fuel for all motorcycles in Europe?
Tango Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Ordered my holiday money today.......bit the bullet as I didn't want to wait and see the rate slide further on the run up to the referendum. .....

Best thing because it's going to keep dropping.Interestingly, the Euro seems to be getting stronger against the Dollar as well! Which makes a big difference to us business-wise as 90% of our outgoings are in USD.
Stu Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 GBP is the opposite against the dollar which is not good for the forum server

My sterling holding increased 3.5% since last week despite the share price going down. I've instructed them all to be sold on Monday.
Stu Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 hope your not premature with that Fro! you could be a millionaire if they rocket

That'll come as a great consolation... i see what you done there No comment on the waste of money though ?It's disgraceful. I don't like politicians and civil servants wasting my money; where they come from - the UK or the rest of the EU - is a much lesser consideration. I've been clear all along that there are things I don't like about the EU, and having to work with 27 other Member States, the Commission and EFSA on an almost daily basis isn't exactly a little slice of heaven, but "bureaucrats waste money" is hardly the coup de grace.
