TheSockMonster Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Hi guys,Looking for suggestions on helmets and head shapes.Currently using a Shark Evo 2 which I've had for too long. Unfortunately, it made contact with road last week which gives me a very good excuse to replace it.Called in Ghost Bikes in Preston today and tried on pretty much every make of helmet they had - ideally I want a face up but I also tried full face. The only one that fit me correctly was a Shoei Neotec 2. Now, if that is the only option, I will fork out the £££ for that, but I was hoping that someone here might have some idea of other helmet with a similar fit/shape on a tighter budget.I know that the Shoei is a good helmet, and you do get what you pay for, but other options would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,Si Quote
Joeman Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Welcome. If you have a shoei shaped head you'll probably fit an HJC helmet too. Quote
TheSockMonster Posted January 24, 2018 Author Posted January 24, 2018 Thanks - tbh, I went into the shop to specifically try on an IS Max, but the pressure on my forehead was painfulSi Quote
Joeman Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Did you try different sizes?Forehead pressure suggests you need the larger size.I think HJC do two shell sizes with different padding thicknesses. What helmet size are you in the Shoei? Quote
Bender Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I been happy with my flip front caberg Duke, did take a week or so for it to settle in to the shape of my face. Quote
raesewell Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Try the HJC RPHA Max Evo if it's a flip front you want. As a bonus it's one of the lightest flip fronts on the market. Quote
Throttled Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I think you should just keep on visiting shops till you find one you are comfortable with. I have to admit to wasting money on helmets which after a week or so I had to admit to myself did not properly fit me. Thankfully they were all a bit neat and my son has been able to grow into them. Tango Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Are there no other Shark lids that would fit the bill? Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 (edited) Oops, autocorrect and a tablet keypad produces some unexpected outcomes. Edited January 24, 2018 by Mississippi Bullfrog Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 As per Bender, I like my Caberg flip front. I've had two and they've been great. But I guess it's a very individual thing. Quote
bonio Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I agree with Joeman about HJC - there may be a model out there to fit you. Quote
megawatt Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 What they say. I have Shoei and HJC helmets. Good fits and comfort. £140 for my HJC. Quote
mikestrivens Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I like the SCHUBERTH C4 and M1 for fit and especially for the integrated Bluetooth communications. Much better than having an ugly lump attached to the side of the helmet. Quote
manxie49 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Just bought a Shoei GT Air, best helmet i've ever invested in for both comfort, and fit, designed to take a communications system as well .... bonus. Quote
TheSockMonster Posted January 29, 2018 Author Posted January 29, 2018 Sorry for lack of replies - notifications were being junked. It was the XL I tried in the HJC. I tried a bigger one in one of the full face ones, but that was too big, so just the shape I assume. In the end, I went back to what I knew and bought a Shark Evoline 3. Looks like it's just that and the Shoei that are suitable for me now. Thanks for the advice guys.Si Quote
TheSockMonster Posted January 29, 2018 Author Posted January 29, 2018 Both interesting and informative Quote
