James in Brum Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 Whiling away the hours with pointless chat; When I was twelve my Dad’s Girlfriend’s son had a zxr400, this would be about 1994. He rode up to the top of our road and back with me on the back. That was probably my introduction to bikes. When I can afford to have multiple bikes I shall buy one of these. I thought it would be my first bigger bike but there was not one the right price and I worried I would bore of a four hundred.Once I had been getting bike mags in my teens I found myself wanting an Aprillia Pegaso 650. No idea why I just liked the look of it. I plan to look for an opportunity to test drive one so I have at least ridden one. There four four models of 600s all out at the same time that seemed to be compared regularly in the bike mad, one was the Yamaha Thundercat (or something like that). They all looked good, I nearly bought the yammy as my first bike. Now over to you, what have your bike fantasies been, why and have you satisfied those fantasies and what wa stage result? Quote
fastbob Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 The first bike I really wanted was the Ducati 900 SS or something very similar . I had a picture of it on my wall quite a few years before I actually got my first bike . Another bike I've always wanted was the 1100 Katana . I almost got there with my GSX 1100 which is the same bike without the " Futuristic " styling . I did contemplate converting it into a fake Katana but I smashed it up within six months of buying it . Bianco2564 Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 Mine would have to be an RG500 or RD500, 4 cylinder two strokes, The RG is supposed to go better, but I'm not a fan of the 80s slabside look. Both can be money pits if you need an engine rebuild. Also both are now expensive to buy, £10-15k for a good running example. M620 Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 Although I am addicted to Italian bikes I have always hankered after a Vincent V twin - but they will be forever out of my price range P.S. still got a 95 Aprilia Pegaso - did a bit of the Trans European Trail in the Pyrenees on it last October Quote
Stu Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 I always wanted a bandit 600 hornet 600 or an sv650! Then I saw sense and bought a zxr400 What a cracking bike that was Quote
Ian Frog Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 fastbob I reckon you dodged a bullet there lol.I have owned 3 bevel Ducatis of 80`s vintage and when they are running right they are great but it is that word "when" that spoils the expeience.CheersIan Quote
Guest Richzx6r Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 When I was growing up and thinking about bikes it was always the Ducati 916 that I hankered after as they just look amazing but they too are way above my price range I also loved the cagiva mito 125 as they had the same styling as the 916 and I did toy with getting one but my dad told me there was no way I'd be getting one as they were too highly stressed and would need to much work and it was quite pricey at nearly 4k n that was 17 years ago so I got a cg125 instead. Now my want is for either something nice and comfortable like the v strom thou or a busa Quote

If you were richer than I and could afford to have a good mechanic on them regularly then the whens could be quite often but still unpredictable.Cracking fun though !CheersIan Quote
Tiggie Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 I still want one of these, and its doable at least Makes me smile everytime I look at one. It just "looks" like a motorbike should to me. Though I'd change the pipe on this one Quote

Guest Richzx6r Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 @Richzx6r Don't care I like em Not something I could ride tbh, I know it's not all about speed and hooning around like idiots but theres something about Bonnie's which make me feel violently ill, same as with cx500's maybe it was just my mate who used to ride a cx500......he used to say he was caning it when even a 125 could out pace him on it Quote
rennie Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 I have wanted both of these for as long as I can remember! It's just about still possible Quote
Ian Frog Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 I agree with you rennie on both counts.CheersIan Quote

Tiggie Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 fastbob That would certainly do Quote
JackieOWheels Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 If the bike was still in production, I'd wish I had a Ducati Sports Classic 1000. Lovely looking cafe racer IMO, there are still some listing available on Autotrader for it but it's a bit out my price range for now. I guess the closest bike I could get to that would be a Trimuph Thruxton. Quote
Mattyfab Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 I don’t know why, but I’ve always fancied a ZX6R, but at 6ft tall, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to be comfy on one. My CBR650F was slightly uncomfortable, and that’s not even a proper sporty thing.I’m still trying to pick a new favourite. I keep swaying towards the MT09, but who knows Quote

The CBR650F was probably a more sporty position than I was comfortable with, so I’m guessing the ZX6R would be even worse in that regards. But like you said, I have to get in the saddle of a few and see what they are like in real life Quote
fastbob Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 What the f**k is that !? It's a tart's handbag on wheels , literally. Quote
