Howdy,

So, I have always wanted to own a pickup truck, not because I own a company or business, but just that I want one for personal use.

I've been shopping around online to get some ideas - nothing flashy - just after something reliable. However I'm getting a bit mixed up with the road tax costs. Information online hasn't been the clearest and I keep getting different numbers.

From people who know or have one of the below, what's the road tax cost for one of these for personal use:

Ford Ranger (2004 - 2006)

Nissan Navara (2003 - 2006)

Mitsibishi L200 (2003 - 2006)

Isuzu Rodeo (2005 - 2008)

Mazda B2500 (2006 - 2008)

:thumb: thanks!

£225 a year is what my Friend used to pay for his 2007 Navara. I would assume they would all be similar unless you got the biggest engine models :?

They all come under commercial which is £225 for the year on tax

Its very complicated, look it up on the web, Parkers website seems to do a good job of explaining it.

It seems most pickups are taxed the same as Transit ype vans, currenlty I think its about £270/year.

I'd go for a Toyota Hilux.

My Dad had one from new in 1993 and it was so reliable, never touched the engine apart from servicing in 150k miles.

Still on the same clutch when he sold it 2 years ago.

I know its only fun but check out the Top Gear show trying to crash, burn, crush and drown a Hilux and it still started and drove.

+1 for the Hilux.

I have owned 2 Navara`s and loved them both (couldn't afford the Hilux lol) then one Mits L200 and hated it especially being told by specialist garage when I queried gearbox fault changing from 4th to 5th "they all do that!" then had a leaf spring break and similar response from suspension supplier, so I find it hard to recommend the Mits I am afraid.

Cheers

Pfft. I saw the thread title and came to share my wealth of ladykiller chat-up lines.

Trucks? One minute this forum goes all horse, the next it’s all serial killer, I genuinely can’t keep up.

Google navara snapped chassis, that should put you off that one.

L200 would be my choice out of that bunch.

Looks nasty. And expensive.

I did look at parkers, it was explained well there but even the responses in this thread show the difference in information, all be it not a big difference so thats reassuring.

That's a smidge over what I currently pay for a 1.4 fiesta!!!!

I have seen that episode, its great, although I don't intend to do that much damage to it

I think that sort of stuff helps with the pricing!

Thays good to know, thanks.

I'd be looking for one that has some sort of service history, as you would with car buying.

You might want to check the price as someone above says 270! It may have gone up!

If you have a pickup you don’t need lines, you’ll have rope and rohypnol

That's thing though it's personal experience and luck of the draw.

Mate had 2012/13 ish navara from new, under warranty had 3 clutch assemblies and they eventually converted it to a standard flywheel, gearbox replaced, various odd electrical gremlins, got shot soon as warranty was up, standard clutch conversation cured the dual mass disintegration.

Just had another who had one supplied by company he works for, engine imploded in the first month, new engine lasted another month till same faulty injector caused second engine to try self removal of head, they are still arguing over that now ad he's refused to have it back.

I think you should get whatever you like the look of best and just buy the lowest mileage with best service history you can 😁

a lot of years ago my mate fancied a toyota hilux so we went to have a look at one it had about a six inch lift with big wheels and tyres a roll cage on the back a nudge bar on the front and both covered in spot lights and also fancy seats, he didnt buy it in the end but it looked well 8-) he has since bought a new one a couple of years ago :)

A local guy in town has an Imported Left hand drive Dodge Ram which has been hugely lifted. It looks fantastic but I dont think I'd enjoy driving it on UK roads, especially rural roads around here

I had a brief drive of a Ranger recently!

3.2, semi auto, good fun to drive!

I know nothing about the practicalities but I don't think I'd want to pay for the fuel in any of them

Had a Nissan Navara donkeys ago. Really enjoyed it. Got a bit fed up not being able to sling things into the back from the front seat or vice versa getting out usually in the rain to retrieve stuff. Went back to a van in the end. Nice n waterproof. But I still don’t regret owning one, probably would have kept it a lot longer if my other half hadn’t wrapped it around a post. That reminds me the airbag failed which at the time was a known but not recalled fault?!?!

Cost of the tyres would put me off
