Morning all, I have a tonne of accounts to do today, I really really struggle with focussing on bean counting stuff, so head says the deal is  if I complete the work by mid afternoon, I get to go for a ride out, yeay, weather is looking good, heart goes, why not go out for ride first then....

Wonder how this is going to play out!!!!

Good evening. A pleasant morning & early afternoon riding brought to a halt by torrential rain. This leaves us 11hours or so to get to Rotterdam over the next two days. We were hoping to be an hour or so closer but, hey Ho…

Today has been “an experience “. What should have taken 6 hours of riding plus stops took 10 1/2 hrs including stops.

Gerlos pass. Wet with iron manhole covers scattered randomly on every bend. I remembered from last time we did it but it was no less annoying.

Fern Pass. A busy road, made worse with roadworks. Again, remembered from our last time but optimism won out over experience . Avoid!

Autobahns. Awesome when they run smoothly. The devils own spawn when there’s roadworks happening. Miles of walking pace riding (filtering is illegal and it’s more than my life’s worth to deliberately break the law with my good lady on board).

My satnav stopped communicating with my intercom at a vital moment and I ended up riding about 20 miles in a direction opposite to the intended route, adding about 40 minutes to the journey.

Still, a nice hotel found at a bargain price, and one beer later I’m starting to feel chilled.

When I was last in Germany in some autobahn roadworks I was being good and not filtering however a group of 6 or 7 Dutch and German bikes went past filtering so I just tagged on and played the dumb Island Monkey.

Good afternoon!

I'm back from 5 days in the USA, over near New York. Hoped today would be an easy day back, it was not.

Bad side of things was I had to work.

Good side of things, I did some sight seeing and the highlight was I went to the shop that Paul Jr from American chopper owns, and I met one of his extended family members who offered me a ride on one of his bikes if I stuck around in town for the weekend. I was flying out Wednesday night so had to decline, but it was a pretty cool thing.

I drank a fair few margaritas and ate burgers the size of my head. Not looking forward to the return to the gym tomorrow, the first session back is always the worst. Even if only a week off.

I am restoring an old Solo dinghy. Tradition has it you never change the name of a boat, but whoever first had this one did it no favours by naming it Sozlo.

Close inspection of the hull revealed it has a hole in it.

The outer skin of the port buoyancy tank. I am cutting out and repairing.

So I am breaking with tradition and renaming the Solo.

When it is relaunched it shall be known as Polo.

Good morning. Today will be spent washing kit, helmet lining and, possibly, the bike after our  jaunt around the lumpy bits of central Europe. We rode in temperatures ranging from 34 degrees down to 9 degrees. The kit and helmets have a certain “ripeness” … as in they stink.

I think that tradition was never more than a maritime version of an urban legend. Ships have been changing their names for centuries.

The Royal Navy regularly changed the names of captured ships so it's an accepted practice. But dinghy sailors have a funny thing about it.

I was once given a wreck called Jojo for the scout Nov 5th bonfire. Then I discovered the original name had been Excalibur. You can't burn a boat called Excalibur, so I ended up completely rebuilding it. It was financially totally bonkers but she sailed well afterwards.
