It wasn't going to bode well in a country that has a free for all when it comes to driving

doesn't matter. im unlikely to ever be forced to filter through French traffic. if they choose to change their laws thats their business. and obviously something British visitors will have to abide by.

but all that aside. how on earth will they police this on the Périphérique. I don't see how they can.. so at the end of the day its probably just tokenism in all the larger cities. more of a concern in smaller towns where the police might have the time to actually enforce it. Paris? not a chance.

Even in the smaller towns the moped riders have been riding like mad nutters on speed for ever. The legality or otherwise of it doesn't seem to matter.

It does not surprise me having seen the state of driving and riding in French cities. There does seem to be a death wish among riders on major roads especially in heavy traffic with bikes travelling at 2 and 3 times the speed of vehicles around them and weaving from lane to lane with no indication or cutting traffic up.

Exactly my thoughts @Old-codger When I drove through Paris in 2019 in no way I could even think about keeping up with the other riders while lane splitting.

They are mental there 🤪

I’ve ridden on the Peripherique once, long before this trial, when filtering was illegal. It was less riding and more like a video game. I chose not to filter on the basis that one of the local nutters would take me out if I got in their way.

I did filter on the autoroute outside Lille on one occasion. There was a car on fire and the police had closed the road off. I followed some french riders to the front of the queue. The police came over to check paperwork - the friend guys showed their paper, the police then noticed I was English and just walked away - the paperwork was probably more hassle than it was worth.

Sounds about right for France  - government  introduces new law - citizens object and have massive rally or riot - government  changes mind.

Perhaps we need to get some hints on this side of the Channel?
