Got a message from my training school with this info last night. My CBT runs out on 8th May so looks like I'll be having to take that as can't see passing full licence by then 💵💴💵

With work looking the way it is, I'm not sure I'll be getting time off to do my DAS before July.

Well, depends on route. If it is via DAS and your school book you in ASAP for dates around (if there are some) then you could pass the test.
All depends if they are able to get the bookings in.

My wife's CBT has already expired. I'm surprised that they haven't prioritised people who need it for work.

I've bookedy theory test for the end of April hoping that they are going ahead by then. I've done 2 professional work exams during this lockdown I don't see why the theory test can go ahead as normal.

Hopefully get DAS done soon and have the summer on something bigger than my 125.

I thought this is what they had to do in order to be open in lockdowns? CBTs for key workers only? Could be wrong....

Had my theory for march and now rebooked it for June... everything else was gone

Keep checking back in the mornings if you can for cancellations. The training compnaies block book and then release them when not required. ;)

My son was very lucky to get his car driving test in the summer. Having been barely up to standard in March and stopping lessons then I was hugely grateful he passed and didn’t have to retake it.

Maybe pick a training school and ring them asking how they’re handling it and whether you can book in now. They’ll want your money so will probably have come up with some sort of flexible approach.

Got my email today, with dates that due to work commitments I've had to push back to June.

Here's the big question.  The one that NO one asks:- Why does a CBT expire after 2 years? Do skills expire? If so, why not car driving? why not the full A license?  If skills DO expire, why 2 years? Is that a scientifically establish number? Exactly 2 years! why not 18 months 36?

Its an arbitrary number, so why was it so hard to extent a CBT?

I cannot understand why it expires. I've heard it said that it's because some people do it then don't ride for ages but that sound like bollocks if you are over 24 you could do a DAS ride for a year then not ride for 20 and then jump on a 200hp sports bike. So I'm  sure how jumping on a 125 when you are a bit rusty compares. The CBT pretty much covered what you do on a full test slalom, figure 8 , u turn , emergency stop and a monitored road ride to ensure you are safe. Most CBT are probably food delivery drivers these days and they probably put in loads of hours of riding and experience. Is be pissed off if I had to spring £120-150 every 2vyears just so could keep riding and keep my job.

I suspect it is because the CBT entitlement to ride is not an entitlement to ride but an entitlement to enable people to practice and ride in their learner years.
I always assumed that the being able to extend it is the loophole, that the purpose of the CBT is to enable people to be able to learn rather than to give them a classification on their license. Kick up too much of a fuss about it and might need to do Mod 1 and mod 2 to be allowed the 125s too.

Its because thy don't want people riding around on L plates forever! .. When CBT can cost more than taking the test you may as well give it a try.

That's why I'm a bit confused. If it is a way for you to get experience to go on to take full test then why the ability the extend ? My trainer told me they have had a 65 year old lady coming to them every 2 years for about 10 years as she likes her scooter but has absolutely no interest in the stress of a full 2 part test.

With a car you get 2 years with the theory test then have to retake, but you're still expected to learn to drive with an experienced driver over 21. On a motorbike you're solo on CBT so they want to know you're safe I guess.

On the subject of training, I've definitely seen people having lessons

Interesting I guess if it's the companies own bikes it could be down to the fact that different people may ride the same bike.
