onesea Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 This cropped up on FB expensive toy or actually works. https://safer-turn.com/smart-turn-system/ I have 2 bikes, one I rarely forget, the other I frequently forget, these systems frequently raise my interest. Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 When I enter both my bikes it says I need to contact them to check compatibility. Not much use having a compatibility check on their website if it only tells you to then contact them. I'd want to know what's involved in fitting one before I got too interested. Quote
Ian Frog Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 Hmm not cheap at £60 odd for my ZRX I think I would rather stay as I am. I am sure some will find a benefit but I don`t think I forget indicators often enough to justify that. Cheers Ian Quote
SometimesSansEngine Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 (edited) My BMW has them as standard, I don't trust them If you're in a queue say for a roundabout you'll find they cancel before you get there, the odd time you forget to cancel you look down what feels like five minutes later and they're still blinking away. Possibly on a fast dual carriageway where you just need them to show you're changing lane and you're also covering a lot of ground they save a bit of faff, but for just riding around I prefer to rely on manual cancellation. I think mine are spec'd to 10 seconds of riding or covering about 300m. My issue is if you come out of a junction and forget to cancel, 300m is quite a distance to cover. But when you're creeping up to a roundabout, ten seconds isn't that long at all. Edited April 29, 2021 by SometimesSansEngine 1 Quote
keith1200rs Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 BMW ones are distance AND time. So, creeping to a roundabout, you still have to cover the distance before they cancel. Similarly if you are stationery. Some models can have the distance reprogrammed at the dealer but I think the minimum is still a long way. Quote
SometimesSansEngine Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 Interestingly, I've had them cancel on approach to roundabouts but definitely not covered 300m. Sort of thing I need to experiment with more maybe.... Quote
skyrider Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 yes i used to have an rd 250 with self cancelling indicators as standard Quote
Gerontious Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 cancel mine before they self cancel, 99% of the time, automatically, without thinking,. so, effectively they are mostly redundant. Quote
Bender Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 I was bad while learning, so much so at one point I thought my name was indicators, it came over the intercom that often I'm fine now. 1 Quote
