whoknowes Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Hit a pot hole pretty hard, didn't lose control but just shaken up. Got home and noticed this dent on the front tire, is this still alright to ride on or does it need to be repaired? Quote
husoi Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Either repair it or a full replacement. tyre could be damaged as well so worth looking into. Surprised (unless you have a tube) didn't deflated. Quote

linuxrob Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Rebuild on a new rim and get new tyre. Inner tube should be OK but look closely at it. If you can find out if the pot hole has been reported before, take pic of pothole and if it has been reported, you should get some compo. Quote
manxie49 Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 You can get it repaired, somewhere like the place detailed below, or if you have somewhere locally. Dealer can usually advise. As linuxrob said, get a photo and location of the pothole, contact the local council offices responsible for roads in that area, you can submit a claim. Not always successful but worth a try https://www.fawheels.co.uk/services/motorbike-wheels-refurbishment Quote Quote Quote

Everything is possible if you have the tools and the patience to do it. I would guess that having it repaired will be cheaper and would be professionally done. If not done properly you will have the wheel unbalanced. you would need a hammer and a steel weight and make sure when you are hammering it you don't stretch the metal. Personally, for the cost I would have it repaired... Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 I would be very cautious about that tyre, chances are the structure of the sidewall has been compromised. The rim looks like steel so should be repairable, though personally I'd replace it for safety's sake. Quote
KiwiBob Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 I wouldn't ride it as it is! .. It needs to be repaired either by yourself(if you're handy at metalwork) or professionally. Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Had similar happen to me on the day I collected a brand new Bandit 1250 from the dealer and was riding it home. Insurance claim for new wheel, tyre and balancing - Successful claim from the Council responsible for highways in Luton. Downside, as this model was new to the UK, I had to wait 12 weeks for a new wheel to be shipped to the dealer. 1 Quote
bonio Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 I wouldn't ride on that as it is. Definitely needs repair, tyre needs replacing. I hit a pohole on the A14 a couple of years back. I took a pic and filled in Highways Agency's form and got a partial rebate on the cost of the new tyre (the rim was fine). Worth a punt. Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 Claimin goff the council is very hit and miss. Our local council insist you provide evidence that the pot hole had already been reported. And even then they rarely cough up. Our daughter wrecked a tyre on a pothole, a collegue who travels the same road told her she had reported it the week before, but the council had no record of it. I've reported many potholes on our lane only in case I then hit one and break something but when you go back with the reference number to track progress it always mysteriously disappears. Quote
MikeHorton Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 Download the fix my street app its a good way of reporting to the council you can attach pictures etc and there's an audit trail 1 Quote

Surely that worth a question to the council? With screenshots. At first you'll just get the "oh there was a computer error" line, but if you keep on at it, they'll work out they're being watched. And just when you're getting somewhere they change the staff and you're back to the start. 1 Quote
