This error happened due to a request to update address on licence. I moved to Wales from Northern Ireland, so today I first called the dva office in N. Ireland, (very helpful) they were able to call up my licence history back as far as 1985. This I believe is the year our old blue licence changed to plastic card. The record shows full motorcycle and car licences held but wording during the change over was 'assumed to have past test prior to 1985" and cat A was unrestricted and granted. When address change was applied for by me dva in N. Ireland recieved a request for a "Certificate of Entitlements" by Swansea dvla and it was sent and detailed full cat A entitlement. Today Swansea has raised a case on my behalf and given me a Ref number. I in turn talked to dva in N. Ireland after this conversation and they have sent a query to Swansea regarding my entitlements including yet another certificate of entitlements and attached my new licence number and case number.... Ireland stored with my brother and hope to ship them across at some point but as it stands at the moment I wouldn't be legal riding them. Just had a phone call from the DVLNI regarding my issue with Swansea and also confirming that my records show I have full cat A when I transferred over to Swansea. The chap is happy to chase up any issues I have with Swansea should I have problems and for £7.50 he is posting and paper copy of my certificate of entitlements and emailing an electronic copy also. It will really be down to how Swansea see this information and how they decide to act on it. Friend had one of his driver's pulled towing a trailer on a 7.5t and he had lost the towing trailer somewhere along the way, he ended up fined and having to do a test, had no proof. Blade929 Posted September 28, 2023 Share Posted September 28, 2023 (edited) After a follow up call I made to Swansea this afternoon, the chap told me that I passed both my motorcycle test and car test on the same date. Though this isn't true but is recorded that way due to the changeover from paper to plastic licences on the year dated in record. The positive of this conversation is that he was looking at my full entitlement and told me I had passed my cat A test. He also stated that they are in conversation with the dva in N. Ireland regarding my claim. He said the case isn't completed yet but once it is that I will be issued with a new licence. Still, I won't count my chickens until I have that new licence in my hand and the restriction removed. I would suggest to anyone that moves address or plan to submit their licence for updated changes that they pay the £7.50 for their "Certificate of Entitlements" as I'm sure this will mysteriously vanish with their old licence once the update is carried out! It maybe I am lucky that Swansea didn't hold my historical licence history and that DVA N. Ireland do right up to the point I moved to the mainland. I got mine via email 30 minutes after paying £7.50 over the phone this morning and they also send you a paper copy via post. It's worth having as its on official paper (email is pdf) and lists every Catagory along with dates they were added to licence (these dates may not be accurate due to changes within the dvla) and any restrictions on these categoryies. 3 pages in total. This could conveniently get lost during your case. The certificate of entitlement is legally accepted as proof of vehicles you can drive on your licence should you decide to move around the world... Lucky for me that N. Ireland have their own driver licencing governing body and when I moved to the mainland Swansea had to request this certificate before they could issue my licence, albeit with mistakes. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Blade929 Posted October 1, 2023 Share Posted October 1, 2023 Hi Billy, I would tend to agree but requesting a copy of your "certificate of entitlements" should be acceptable. Doing this should create a note to be added to your dvla records that you requested and paid for this certificate which should be accepted if for some reason the dvla have deleted/removed/updated your records after this date. All records, regardless of changes and including changes should be backed up and if older then microfish records should still be available.
