Keep in mind that it is mandatory for motorbikes to have the dipped headlights on at all times while ridding.

I would advise a trickle charger at home over night instead.

There is no legislation requiring motorcycles to be fitted with DRL

I was referring to the law about new bikes not having a switch to turn the actual headlight off, not a seperate DRL. That came into place in January 2016 according to an earlier post in this thread

Nothing illegal about fitting a switch to turn them off if you want to of course.

There is a difference between DRLs and headlights. Looking at various sources I can see differences of interpretation of the current regulations. But the consensus seems to be that the UK came into line with EU and some US States saying that new motorcycles had to be built without a manual headlight switch. The intention is that motorcycles should always have the headlight on when the engine is running.

The MOT rules say that if a switch is retro fitted it isn't a fail. And there is no legal requirement to ride a motorcycle with the headlight always on.

Insurers will use any loophole to avoid paying out so if you fitted a switch it would be wise to declare it as a modification otherwise they might deem the cover not to be valid.
