Why do you want to fit a car tyre? General consensus would be don't do it which you don't want to hear.

Welcome, a big fat square tyre you want? Maybe start with the size of your rim and see what is available and go from there.

If you really want to do it (I think FortNine did a video on this) then why not take your wheel into a tyre place and ask them what they've got that fits it?

Don't do it, is a recommendation, and probably the only one you're going to get here...

First question.... Why?

Get one which says Hoosier on the sidewall, always like them.

People saying don't do it - there's actually some pros (and definitely cons) to it to my suprise

A solo motorcycle fitted with a car tyre will fail an MOT with a 'Major' status. I can also imagine exactly what an insurance company would say in event of either a claim or the discovery of a modification that makes the bike unroadworthy.

We are not a nanny state, if someone wants to put a car tyre on the rear well that's down to them the road and their insurance company.

Upsides, greater weight loading, bigger foot print, more grip in a straight line, I've seen batman and he had plenty of grip.......

Thanks for the helpful comments (why do some people not read the "don't do it is not a recommendation lol"? Not helpful, but I guess you want to be smart in front of the rest of us) I've looked up the mot rules and yes Capt Sisko it would fail(but I'll have a chat with my local mot'er and see if he'll turn a blind eye, which I'm sure some mot'ers do fer "harley" riders lol) funny how most smart replies came from adventure /tourer type bikes and not cruiser style, but any comments smart or helpful are appreciated guys, so let's get to the leading link fork part 👍😊

Hi Biffa may I ask with both modifications are you intending to be able to switch from solo to sidecar use with minimum transition time?

Leading links on a solo add significant weight and slow the steering considerably which in turn makes it feel like you are always running wide (in my experience not a wonderful feeling especially in the wet).

Interesting project and good luck.

Cheers

as suggested many times before "not" is a suggestion and a viable recommendation, so just because it goes against what you want to do, isnt just to make people look smart its sharing information to a question asked, so it is actually helpful as to the reason why rather than just ignore a question.

films dont count as there full of bs and unless you're only drag racing or side car its not worth it nor a good idea in general. yes get greater loading cap and more mileage with the car tyre but a vt750 doesnt fall into that category nor need it. even a goldwing or a rocket doesn't need it.

if you want different and a slightly better idea would be to just Slightly over size the tyre or get a stretch the crap out of one to thin side wall it as in "custom job" with a white wall, look to avon cobra chromes.

well if its a mot fail then its definitely not a good idea, invalid insurance yada yada.

getting a mot'er to turn a blind eye is very short coming and lands both of you (if not more so him) in trouble if you get found out, doing something that just screws yourself up is one thing but asking someone else would make me uneasy on a unnecessary mod, including if you have an accident that involved a innocent party.

well if you do wish is carry on regardless then id choose the roundest (tallest& narrowest) profile (visually) car tyre you can, wouldnt matter too much on a manufacturer as your not putting much weight nor stress into the tyre itself rather than just to avoid cheap sub brand chinese....

Thanks so much for the advice ridewithstyles, as opposed to some previous replies (I meant sarcastic mickey takers who think "why not put a steering wheel on it"), i could go on about it but that's not what I'm here for, info and friendly banter is all I need, I will take your advice buddy 👍👍😎

The reason for the comments is essentially because it's a bad idea.

Regardless of wether you want people to comment or not, it is still a public forum and we're still entitled to our opinion.

If you're willing to flout not only advice and opinions, but also the law to get this done then you will almost certainly attract some comments.

You're putting yourself and other road users at risk by attempting something like this so I'd genuinely take a look in the mirror and give your head a serious shake.

Sorry buddy but I don't flout advice or opinions, I do however I do get pissed off when some people (not you) try to be funny/sarcastic because they can't give useful advice, if you read my reply to ridewithstyles, you would have seen that I have taken the advice, as for looking in the mirror, I'd advise you to do the same, I personally would not mouth off to people you don't know, so after all that I hope you have a great day and always keep em upright 👍😎

It wasn't meant in an unfriendly way, my apologies if it did come across that way.

The other posts seemed like you had made your mind up that you were going to do it regardless, even to the point of getting someone to put it through the MOT.

I'm a car guy, and a bike guy and I love sensible modifications and individuality, what I can't stand though is when it's clearly unsafe, illegal, or uninsurable which puts other road users at risk or financial loss. I will give my opinion on that, wether you want it or not as it's a road we've all got to share.

No offence taken pal, were all brothers (and sisters) when it comes to biking so we're all good eh? BTW did you know there's no such thing as law, according to a baron ward avidavit that's going around? Sorry way off subject lol, 😉😁👍

Is that Baron (David) Ward of the House of Ward (AKA 145, Slater Road, Warrington - a neat little semi detached), a para legal - not really a fully qualified lawyer?

I’m almost embarrassed to ask my friendly solicitor for her response.

OMG someone who doesn't go " eh, wot yer talking bout?" lol 👍👍

DuckDuckGo is my friend… a simple search. I scan-read it but it’s in legalese waffle-bollocks which I suspect amounts to nothing more than noise.

You appear to have a thing for being easily pissed off or annoyed, if your just after an argument there are plenty of places on the internet that will oblige, Facebook is a great place to start.

If your going to ask a question on the internet your going to get some options you don't want, it's life.

Members on here are for the most part helpful and courteous if you don't want opinions don't ask a question.

There are specific groups dedicated to car tyres on a bike.

So you think helpful and courteous is being sarcastic? I'll not play sorry, just to say I'm not here to argue, or take the mickey out of anyone, so when I asked a legit question, I didn't expect a sarcastic remark(not helpful or courteous) , as you said if I wanted that I would go on Facebook. Sorry if you think I have anger issues, I dont but I am old school to the point of when some asks me something, I don't come out with smart Alec comments, I hope you don't take offence as none was meant, peace  brother👍😎

No you just come across as attempting to sew as much discord as possible whilst saying all good.

I've locked this cause it's just going to go round in circles.....
