Hi gang, forgive my not searching for this topic, I know it's on here somewhere but I'm travelling back home and can only stop for a few minutes.

I've just sold my NT700 on ebay, to a guy with no feedback but 30 followers apparently.

His last minute bid won, I asked for paypal deposit in the advert description but I've been messaged with "courier gives you cash  whatsthe problem". English is not first language from previous message "please postcode phone number"

Am I hearing alarm bells?  Will a courier carry cash.

Apologies for waffling, brain frazzled from driving on wring side of the road for a few days.

Report the buyer and walk away.

it's definitely a scam

Sounds like a scam to me. At the very least meet in a neutral ground with backup mates in case of dodgy business.

Definitely a scam! Probably the most common one on ebay

Thanks guys, I'll not even bother replying (although part of me wants to string him along).

The alarm bells were ringing, but I wondered if I was just being paranoid.

So back to square one with selling the Deauville that now has 2 weeks less MOT on it!

On a positive note, I've just had a great few days in Spa Francorchamps watching a friend race in the GT series, covering a few miles on the Versys 🙂

Thanks again

Report the buyer and ebay should award the auction to the next bidder.

Don’t worry about a few weeks of mot, most actual buyers aint flippant for things like that. if it’s advertised correctly, priced keenly for its condition and history it will sell quickly.
good luck. 👍🏽

Also be aware of Paypal charge backs. It's wise to refuse and paypal payments.

If a buyer wants to pay cash meet them at your bank and pay it into your account, the bank/machine will obviously check the notes. If they refuse then you know it was dodgy.

I've got a couple of days left on the relisted auction, paying in to bank seems sensible.

I thought by asking for PayPal deposit, I'd at least have some form of I.D.

Maybe I should forget the deposit and hope the buyer shows up when arranged. Why this has to be so bloody stressful is beyond me.

ID will make no difference in the case of a chargeback unless you plan to go to the persons house to get your money back. REmember they have 6 months to do said chargeback

I hate Paypal if oyu can't tell.

What f**king logic for a payment processing service is it that the buyer can pop into their bank branch, tell a very vague lie and get their money back?

Guy buys your bike. 6 months later goes into his bank and fills a form out claiming you never shipped said bike. Guy gerts money back. You then owe paypal said money and due to the bank taking priority and reversing the charge PAypal are now down and under no circumstances will they return any money. It could well bankrupt the average man in reality due to now not not having the bike money plus equal debt.

f**k off Paypal with your literal broken service. The idea is by using paypal you don't need to trust each other, not that one party can immediatley rob the other person via a form at their bank. Cocks

I'm thinking of handover at work with security cameras inside and out, or at home with cctv outside if they insist on log book address (like I would).

Theres very little chance of getting robbed imo. CCTV is of little use.

Main issue is fake notes, use an automated machine at the bank. Second issue is Paypal charge backs.

I see no other threats.

Makes zero difference IMO as long as the cash is legit. ask chat GPT to write you a basic sale reciept, check the cash and all is fine
