  1. I got back into biking 8 years ago. Bought a GSX600F done me well, comfortable, reliable, keep thinkingof trading it in for something else but never get around to it - partly because I just enjoy riding this one. I have been tempted by a Yamaha Tracer though!
  2. When you tirn the ignition on, do the lights show on the instrument panel. If yes then the battery has at least some charge. When you try to start, do they do dim? If yes then your battery is weak/discharged. As said above try charging the battery
  3. As above you are going to have ot strip it down and get some measurmennts. If you can get some photos of the bearings and seals that will help. As said above bearing often have a part number etched onot them. Seals may have part number moulded n to them as well. It is possible parts from a car have been used for the axle. These could be a bit harder to identify. But once identified it would be a case of buying the "car" parts. Whne you have stripped the bearing out look on th ehub/bearing etc for any marks logos that could identify a manufacturer. (i.e. Ford logo)
  4. Life jackets (aka Bouyancy aids) can be more complicated. When I used to water ski LIfe jackets had to be CE marked, but if you were buying one you were well advised to buy one that was also US coastguard approved. The reason, US ones had to not only support you in the water. but had to be strong enough that you can be lifted out of the water by the life jacket. Many EU ones were not strong enough. I think as motorcyclist we put a lot more though into Helmets than boaters/sailors do for life jackets.
  5. I nearly bought a faired GS500, I had seen one and was thinking about it when I saw a GSX600F, test rode it and liked it much more then the GS500. I can se the appeal of the 500 though, 2 cylinders, sort of more character and less to maintain. GSX has served me well though, just comong up to 50,000 miles and no majot issues. Hope you find a bike you like and enjoy it.
  6. Since you have tried reinstalling the original (worn) output shaft and stil go tthe same problem. It would appear to be an assembly problem. Do you have a workshop manual for the bikre? There may be a specific assembly process to get the gears aligned with the selector drum.
  7. It's worth checking the kill, side stand, and clutch switches. Also try leaving plugs out for a few hours in case it flooded. I have a GSX600F which has a similar engine, it can be tricky to start after perods of no use. The way I start it is, bike on centre stand, turn fuel tap to PRI, choke full on, throttle closed, start engine, when engine starts do not touch throttle, wait untill revs rise before operating throttle, whne engine will rev start toredcue choke to reduce revs.
  8. In north wale, Buckley, they have just made the entire town a 20mph speed limit. Thw Welsh governemnt are supposedy doing it as a trial but all the signs etc. look very permanent. The ultimate aim of the Welsh government is to chnage all current 30mph limits to 20mph. Stupid thing is the main road from where I live - Ewloe to Buckley passes a school where the legal speed limt is 30mph (with an advisory 20mph) once past the school it changes to legal 20mph.
  9. A lot depends on the age and driving history of the friend. My daughter used to add me to her policy - it made it cheaper, I had a clean licence and no accidents which helped.
  10. Thanks for the replies - only testing - that explains no TV coverage.
  11. Snetterton 26 March - 27 March Is there any TV coverage this weekend on TV, looed everywhere can't find any!
  12. If you can get them its the cheapest way, for my bike I couldn't get a brush pack, luckily a new starter was only £60.
  13. Sounds as if the starter motor is the problem. I had problems with my GSX600, it would start but only just, turning over slow. Jump start with jump leads no better. I took starter off and looked inside. Brushes were worn down, only making contact with some of the rotor. New starter and it has been perfect since.
  14. I agree - anti vibration clip. It may not be a seperate part, it look slike it is a press fit on and wouldn't normally be removed. I suspect it has got broken in use or during replacement of the pads. Unfortunatly I think you are goin got have to get a new bracket. Used part may be a cheaper option.
  15. I got one of the high vis jackets from B&Q only cost £15, surprisingly good. Went back recently to get another one but they only had lined ones. Belstaff, and others do bike specific ones, about £35 I think, J&S had some last time I was there.
  16. MY GSX600 is four cylinder - so 4 HT leads to deal with. I was getting misfires inheavy rain. First - found out previous owner had shortened the front mudguard, gota new 2nd hand one - helped but din't cure it. Cleaned all around the top of the head and coils, lots of oil and dirt. Most of the leads touched metal at some point (head and frame) no way of keeping them apart. So I added extra layers of insulation on the leads and metal parts where they touched - this helped a lot, I have not had misfires since.
  17. As above try WD40, it will displace the water and get it working again. Trouble with WD40 is its only temporary. Itsa get you home fix and can help diagnose the problem. Looking for sparks at night sometimes works, shows you where the problem is. Trouble with WD40 is its only temporary. Check the coil ht lead spark plug cap and spark plug. Cracks in the spark plug cap will let water in/spark out Damaged HT lead insulation will let water in/spark out. If the HT lead touches or is close to any metal, try to keepthem apart, if you can't consider adding insulation between the lead and metalwork. Clean the lead/cap/coil - oil attracts dirt that can be a path for the sprk to follow, with water in the mix its even worse. Old/worn spark plug won't help either.
  18. Been for a ride outot the Ponderosa, not one of my more sensible plans! Very wet an windy, mine was the only bike on the car park! - that doesn't happen very often.
  19. looks like it is fairly good conndition. 80,000 miles is huge mileage fro a single cylinder 125. Is it correct or a typo? Oil changes are very frequent, no proper oil filter, just a gauze screen, oil change 1,000 miles. Don't be too worried about ECU's and electronics, they are generally very reliable on most jap bikes.
  20. My daughter had a 2005 Ybr125, chnaged the headlight bulb to a 35W halogen one, much brighter. It had a 25w tungsten, I think 35w is what should be in anyway, but worth paying the extra for halogen. You can swap the indcators to LED but you will need to change the indicator relay as well.
  21. Mine aren't Oxford, I cheap ones off ebay, With bare hands I can feel heat in about 1-2mins, about 5mins with gloves on. I start with them on max (4) if its not very cold I will end up turning them down after about 15mins.
  22. I fitted Heated Handlebar grips to my GSX600 recently. The throtle grip side looked similar to what is in your photo. IT was justa straight swap. There is a good chance a straight swap will work for you as well. The only way to find out is give it a go. If you do have to go down the swapping to the standalone throttle grip then consider if your bike has an engine kill switch. On my bike I would not be able to use the standalone because it has an engine kill switch.
  23. Welcome, hope you enjoy the forum and find it helpful.
  24. I have just had my renewal on my GSX600F 2003, fuly comp £87. Age 58. Not worth trying to geta better quote at that price.
  25. If you havn't got paraffin, White spirit also works well.
