  1. Hmm.. https://i.imgur.com/P4XBn5z.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Ancient but not leaky 10v 3900uf Teapo on the left, leaky 10v 4700uf "GL" on the right. Methinks 4700 might be a little bit optimistic! https://i.imgur.com/K1msUX4.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Fiddly job.. https://i.imgur.com/jUhPlJ2.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> https://i.imgur.com/4vkow0q.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> It works! Voltages seem okay. Sad fact is though that this is completely unsuitable for an old machine and the "minor" rails are barely even present compared to the +12v rail so all this was for nothing. Yay!
  2. Are we really looking to blame the suspension for heavy central wear of the rear tyre of a road bike? Really?? When there are massive unused strips on the edges as well!? This place If it bothers you then get a new one put on, any sports touring tyre would be fine but really all the modern radials are pretty good. This is being made really complicated!
  3. Hmmm.. https://i.imgur.com/TZWWo6f.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Ahhh.. https://i.imgur.com/CsqgNon.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Managed not to melt the plastic of the switch too much! https://i.imgur.com/X5F7zeP.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Gently gently.. https://i.imgur.com/udxxUM6.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> I never said I'm a master solderer https://i.imgur.com/mfDDt7J.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Only melted the dash pad a little bit! After all that the hazards still didn't work and suddenly the switch was very stiff, I thought I'd knackered it with too much heat but a bit of penetrating spray has it working as well as it ever did - if I get the switch into just the right position I have hazard lights. So, hazards work, both horns work, all going well! What to do next though. Do I take the opportunity of there being no fairing in the way to replace the fuel hoses, or do I put the fairing back on and then have a slightly more difficult job later on? Decisions decisions.
  4. What voltage does it charge at? I'd be worried about the stator too..
  5. Finally the rain abated, to be replaced by burning sunshine (ow my head). First thing, the top nut.. thing for the top yoke. It's actually a nut on a separate threaded thing which turns into the top of the stem - I don't understand what it's all about but it's on there nice and tight https://i.imgur.com/3JfnY2S.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Part of the up-speccing to K100RS-RR is to set the geometry to race mode (I wish I could've gone further but the handlebars got in the way, very rock and roll ): https://i.imgur.com/s1ONUqY.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Racing pads! Bright orange will have me shunned by the BMW fraternity but rugged individualism is how I roll after being influenced by that old welsh spanish bloke.. https://i.imgur.com/4owztVM.jpg?1' alt='IMGUR>'> One pair had a slice down the middle and the other pair didn't, thanks EBC Brake Shop! Don't look that different to the normal organic pads hmm.. https://i.imgur.com/0bYTL4H.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> File away the corrosion inside the caliper and in they go, I decided to put the non-sliced pads on the outsides because the outers were the most worn when I took the old pads out. If this is wrong I don't really care because they're staying where they are now..: https://i.imgur.com/SMckITV.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Fixed the horn! Hopefully! https://i.imgur.com/MJBFtI9.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> No prizes for guessing why the hazard lights don't work.. This was done during the theft back in 2017. It's quite a tricky repair, would be best to do it off the bike and thread the wiring back around the headstock and under the tank. Hmm. I will have to get the tank off to replace the fuel lines for ones that don't have massive cracks in them so it could be done.. https://i.imgur.com/DvDzIik.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Worn out and pottering about by now, I thought I'd put the mudguard on. Yes they're always wonky at the back, no you can't fix it. https://i.imgur.com/o7bUpaQ.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Phew!
  6. Honestly that is ridiculous money for an 850, you could have the 900 for that and not have wearing carbs, occasionally massive oil consumption and the 900 has a further improved gearbox. Silly.
  7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_0dvZkSm7o I went through a radio phase when I was 13/14 and John Peel played The Donnas (probably Take It Off, can't remember) and it stood out a mile against the rest of the dross. ~19 years later and I still think they were great, not clever or even classy but they got it right. Well, at least in the early years before they calmed down and got quieter..
  8. 1/ Whaaaaaaaaaat? Mega-weaklings can't handle a 400cc machine
  9. There was! It is now known as the Capacitor Plague but at the the time it was just "bad caps", to put it politely.. I'm not sure if this is a victim of that though, looks more like simple bad design - the cap that has spewed is right next to a big heatsink so it's spent its life all nice and hot.
  10. [list=]Made a bit of a dent in my not-yet-played game backlog [list=]Did some light spannering Sooooo laaaazyyyy
  11. A '99 should be fairly bulletproof, you'll get the later valves and a nicer/stronger gearbox. He doesn't need to know that though. Front discs are a constant pain, they love to warp - something to do with the 10 (?) bobbin design as opposed to the 6-ish that get used since. Nice bargaining point, could be expensive to fix as you have to replace them, there's no way to "fix" them.
  12. My high school (I was there 1998-2001) had dual ISDN lines for about 30 computers, and it was considered fairly cutting edge! 15" CRTs and Pentium 2s all in a row in the computer room, oh god I feel really old all of the sudden. Anyway, guess what lurks in the "new" PSU.. https://i.imgur.com/cC3GK0z.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Bloody hell
  13. One thing that would concern me about this is that the new owner has no real idea what state the machine is in.. Anyway, what year is it? If it's '96 or before then be wary of "stretching"/wearing inlet valves, they'll need replacing come ~35K miles and they're not cheap. Rich running is usually due to worn emulsion tubes, worth humming and harrring over, maybe sucking in through your teeth a bit.. Could be low on compression mate.. Yamaha and their wet liners don't you know mate..
  14. Hooo yesssss For anyone with an interest in Pentium 2 to Pentium 4 era hardware some of those pictures are downright pornographic, the price of some of these things are now utterly absurd.. If you can get them at all.
  15. Did a bit of rugged individualism myself! Had to go to Welwyn Garden City to pick up a computer power supply I'd won on ebay that the seller wouldn't post, so just for XTreme I thought I'd take some pics of an estate.. https://i.imgur.com/aqYU5oA.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> ..And then of a layby on the way home! https://i.imgur.com/E63vNtD.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> I got rained on shortly after this, some might say it always rains in Leicester.. I don't mind admitting I was actually a little nervous about going so far, I think it's the furthest I've travelled so far this year! Rather than using the M1 again I made my way back up along the A6 through Bedford - posh area that. Anyway, with new parts comes some work! Hello bits. https://i.imgur.com/Dj0yf3b.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> https://i.imgur.com/GAil93Z.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Fit it all in the case ready.. https://i.imgur.com/K66Qn6W.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Test the "new" (15 year old) PSU on a slightly broken testbed, all voltages I can easily test were okay. https://i.imgur.com/hUYBDh6.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Take it all back out of the case because it doesn't work, why do you hate me old computer? Why?? https://i.imgur.com/6FWlON0.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Cue much faffing and mixing and matching, new PSU works on a slightly less ancient machine bu not the properly ancient machine. Goddamn it. https://i.imgur.com/FoSxTTm.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Massive disappointment all round. Busy weekend though!
  16. Can you free the connector from the block to get a better look at what's wrong? I wouldn't expect superglue to fare very well, any pulling/moving force seems to break it very easily.
  17. Something something lowest funded council in the country etc. etc... Also we're currently experiencing the largest 'rona outbreak in the country so that's TWO things we're currently winning at! Yay
  18. When I first bought glasses with an anti-reflective coating I was warned to keep away from alcohol wipes (annoying because they work brilliantly..) but anything gentler should be fine.
  19. I prefer the girder forks
  20. Pics please so that us armchair experts can dish out ridiculous advice
  21. All this talk of Amstrads and Dizzy sent me on a quick rummage.. https://i.imgur.com/SsflFog.jpg' alt='IMGUR>'> Sad fact - it never loaded properly, not once Still got the CPC464 and a CPC6128, I haven't touched either in about 20 years but they're there, ready and waiting for.. Something.. After the Amstrads (which were pretty useless without Internet or anything, let's be honest) we had a recycled 486, and then a few years later went LARGE on a Duron 1300 system which would actually play games online, even if the GPU was some awful Sis 730 monstrosity. Personally my first built/hobby machine was a Pentium 2, quickly upgraded to P3 spec with a slocket and the basic bones are still with me today - I'll be going on a trip to That London on Saturday to pick up a PSU for it!
  22. It's not a complete seal I don't think, just a lot better than being "open" like all the others. And the seal doesn't come off, it's part of the casing.. Today I did nothing because it was raining or threatening to rain most of the day
  23. The EU have launched a site called Re-Open EU with up to date information on it, though it doesn't seem to include future plans/changes it still seems a useful tool if you need to know something
  24. Turkey looks amazing Why did you go so long without fixing the stator though? Didn't you order (or accept?) the bits quite a while before it finally gave up?
