  1. Rode it for the first time since fitting the Conti Trail Attacks. What a difference. The Avon's weren't bad but I did have a speed wobble at certain speeds with the Avon's. No such issue with the new rubber, grippy too. So far, pleased with them, will be even more pleased if I can get at least 7K out of them.
  2. Good Old BBC Bull shit no news news and Clowncil % reporting. To report in percentages because real numbers are values and if 5 people normally ride on the bus and 3 more embark they have 61% Easy to quote percentages to sway the decision in their favour.
  3. I'm not sure where my Avon Trail riders were manufactured, somewhere overseas no doubt, but I did get 7400 miles out of them, albeit lacking in confidence with them.
  4. True, Conti's are very good (and I'm a Michelin Fan Boy ) I wanted a tyre that was more road bias and quieter
  5. Are those Conti Attacks - I've just fitted a pair yesterday.
  6. You can get a good idea of cost with the comparison sites. I have halved my Insurance this year by using the fury creature site, all the others usually involve sales calls.
  7. They've actually managed to manufacture the Lego model.
  8. F@@kin Public Transport. Arranged to meet up in Madchester with a couple of old friends. We have a nice afternoon, only £27.40 for 4 pints of Madri . Train cancelled last minute for the return journey.

  10. I once rode my CBR600 to Angers just to get a picture under a sign that said Welcome to Angers, twinned with Wigan
  11. If your after staying in the area and unable to stay at the Schloss, you could try HOTEL DAYTONA DASBURG - hotel I stayed here last year, quirky to say the least but great hosts, Jan & Hilly are Dutch, the bar has a pool table, darts, pinball, TV area amongst other things, there is a small bar serving good beer. Good breakfast and evening meals. Cheap as chips too.
  12. I would love one when I retire. Head off to the South of France for the summer, cruise in comfort.
  13. Happy Birthday Bender

    Another Newbie

Suzuki V-Strom. Bombproof engine, excellent fuel efficiency and a good selection of luggage options along with plenty of poke for those roads and light enough to pick up without having arms like popeye
  16. I think a van would be better, can carry all your gear, fuel, tyres, spares and tools etc, you could even camp in it. Something along the lines of, as others mention, Ford transit, Renault Traffic, Vauxhall Vivaro, and if all else fails

    Dead end roads

I often ride down roads and tracks and have to return the same way , at least you get to view the scenery from a different direction. I travelled across the Hahntennjoch twice in a day, both directions gave equally stunning scenery and the road gradient changing while traversing the pass in a spirited way was delightful
  18. If its the Garmin XT, you made the right choice IMO.
  19. I hope the weather improves, she might need some Gore-Tex slippers. Good on her
  20. Happy Birthday
  21. My last entry of the tour. I hope it has been of interest to some of you, or at the very least an insight of other peoples travels and maybe something useful. I used the following Hotels. Hotel Revotel 41-43 Raymond Poincare. Nancy. Clean and with a secure private underground garage. 10min walk to the main square, plenty of restaurants and bars. Hotel Geiger Ulferstrabe 18 Hopfen am See. Fussen. A spa Hotel, great food and secure parking undercover. Restaurants and bars on the door step but quiet. Hotel Restaurant Cigogne 4 Place du marche Munster, nice, clean and simple, with a secure private garage. Centre of Town which was very quiet. Logis Hotel Au Tambour 60-63 Rue de Maneux Reims. Quiet location with Private secure garage, short walk to centre, nice clean rooms, simple again. au revoir
  22. I filter, always, at traffic lights I make my way to the front or towards the front without crossing the line. Stationary motorway traffic, when cars are bumper to bumper and have nowhere to move and when traffic does start to move, I go up to 20mph keeping an eye on the cagers front wheels for turning, which imply they are intending to change lane, whether they have seen you or not, then I slow or stop and let them go.
  23. Well, we're all different for starters, you shouldn't feel guilty for wanting to go away on the bike, if your wife and kids aren't interested, well that's fine isn't it. Just change the emotion, as I'm sure you do many other things together. Plus isn't there an old saying 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' I go away on the bike, always have. My wife on the other hand, she enjoys meeting the girls and going out to bottomless brunch dates with them, (at least once a month) they even have a girly week or long weekend away, ladies day at Aintree for example, all the stuff I have no interest in, but as long as she's happy. We always find time for us and the kids and grandkids. I've just been away for a week to Germany, you'd think I've never been away. Why don't you try it, you both might just enjoy it.
