If she’s determined to keep biking or the thought of not doing it is getting her down, get in touch with NABD ( National Association for Bikers with Disability ), they can give free advice on available conversions & in some cases financial assistance to perform the conversion.

No no no, just no !! I’ve got lane departure in my current car and when it tries to re-centre I really gives me the shits & I over compensate as I don’t initially realise what’s happening and end up swerving, this would be a disaster on a bike & would probably have me off. I do use my indicators but sometimes it has a mind of its own.

Midlands Ended up riding up the ridgeway, stopped for a couple with a dog & a bloke on a horse. Couple were lovely & had a chat about the bike, the guy once had a 595 Speedtriple. Bloke on the horse got arsey coz I shouldn’t have been there ( he was correct ) but then thanked me for stopping to let him passed. -
About to solo El Capitan? Or a light but of bouldering? Looks absolutely gorgeous.

The moment of truth !!!!! I’ve laid down a couple of cloths, one under the bike to check for oil leaks & one beneath the carbs to check for petrol leaks. I’ve left the battery charger on so I don’t flatten the battery. Fuel tap turned to prime & choke on & first prod of the starter. Its alive …. First time & only after a quick press of the starter, no horrible noises, no horrible smoke or steam out of the exhaust. Oil pressure light went off & all four headers got hot. There is a small fuel leak from the T piece where the fuel lines connect which will need fixing before it goes to RRP in Meriden to have the carbs properly set up. I am a very happy Mickly -
It is, it’s a static & with what we pay we could have a couple of very nice weeks in a posh far flung exotic place. However, it is used by the family, kids, Mum, brothers, sisters, grandkids, who, if it wasn’t for us and our van, would not be able to afford to have a holiday at all. We also get about 8 weeks a year away in it. We can’t charge family for using it as it brings lots of letting & insurance complications with it & if we did it on the sly and the site owners ever found out we would be kicked off…. Maybe I should just ask for a small contribution to a bike fuel fund.

Looks like that may well happen

A real serious downside of the huge increase in petrol prices is on those of us who use our bike riding as a way of caring for our mental health. When ever I feel low or the world is closing down around me I go off for a ride & it immediately lifts my mood & come back in a better frame of mind ( as commented upon by Mrs Mickly & who’s opinion is never to be doubted ) Now there is a niggling doubt in my mind as to whether we can afford this luxury which stresses me out even more as I can’t imagine a life where I can’t get a biking fix for my mood. Even having the discussion with the Mrs about what me might have to forego in order to allow me to continue is filling me with dread. My recent epic ( to me ) 834 mile 3 day trip was only afforded by saving for a couple of months & it looks like it’s finished off my front tyre Anyone else in the same frame of mind? Maybe I can get fuel in prescription

I’ve got a Cardo Freecom 1+ I don’t use it for music, just linked to my iPhone for satnav & receiving calls. The installation on my Nolan N100-5 was a bit tricky & involved cutting away some of the interior to fit the speakers. I ride with ear plugs but with the volume up to max I can still hear directions clearly at very illegal speeds on a naked bike. The app is intuitive & allows download of the latest operating system. Battery life seems good, recent use as satnav only for 10 hours only used 20%. All good so far … Here are the bad bits … The buttons are a bit fiddly to use with bike gloves & the big problem is that although it’s handy to be able to clip the unit off to charge, if you don’t clip it back in properly it will end up deposited on a far away road side never to be seen again You can buy a replacement unit from Cardo but it costs more than buying the whole kit from other outlets.

It’s all shits and giggles until one of the little darlings drops a cloth and the cleans your bike with gravel !! Got the T shirt Still can’t be angry with them for long

That all may be true but we’ve never had any problems. The guy who does the gas check pointed out the need to update the change over valve ages ago, but as we don’t rent it out we didn’t see why we should fork out for it.

I have been caught out in the past but I now know all their regular haunts - it’s the unmarked cars that worry me.

There’s 2 of them

Depends what she uses it for

Didn’t stop in any empty ( or occupied ) lay-bys, just got some tags. Now relaxing in the Caravan with a . Think that’s the most I’ve done in a single day, not bad when a lot of it was single track B roads ( did spank it on the last bit of the A30 though )

Thanks for the recommendation Wont be there this time, but might well go later in the year when Mrs Mickly comes along

Cleaned & lined the chain on the Speedtriple in preparation for tomorrows ride down south. ( I did put a tarpaulin down on the drive to protect it but it soaked through & left a big black stain on the block paving, luckily Mrs Mickly won’t realise until I’ve gone ) Checked tyre pressures, oil & coolant levels, all good Here is my planned route:

Happy Birthday - weather’s looking good for a ride out & an afternoon beer in the sun.

I’ve found FWR tyres to be good.

Out witted by a Cucumber, love it, that’s going to be my new insult of choice - “You’re so thick you’d be outwitted by a cucumber” Actually a good description of Nadine Dorries
