Why am I getting wet
RideWithStyles replied to daveinlim's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Its one of those things where its based on where, when and luck. Thats fine if they know English, a good amount of areas dont know it (france and spains les tourists areas) or it was so long ago since last they were or if ever taught it. that's certainly been my experiences. -
Cant agree more Mega ross.

Try at least it make locals feel like your making an attempt which case more likely to help or go out of their way and not make u look just like a selfish arrogant english ****. Yes if all else fails i did have to resort to caveman talk, uhgaa ou ou..me (points to self) want food (points at food) in tum tum (point to tum and rubs belly) never fails . -
Now just because its funny related but not directly saying it is or stu will ban me but sounds like you dropped youself in it: So westy sounds like Adding other people's notes. Were u a slow learner or pass the blame?.... Being more serious, i think everything is messed up and out of sync with each other. Teaching at its core is still based back in the dark ages and yes it has changed some but alot does need updating but not solely the problem. 0other problem is also that anyone biologically/guardian and mentally can have children when either before or afterwards really wouldn't be suitable if it was means tested. areas of the country are is dire needs for a shake up.

Been there felt that. yeah languages are my major downfall, barely do English . winging it is satisfying when you cant just do it. One way was a Small note book with common things broken down phases, that was before phones were really useful but wont work if no network.... still wouldn't let that put you off, its an adventure! -
Must admit that gif is amusing. Don't get discouraged Janinej, we all learn and keep learning. if there is anything you don't know or understand just ask, we like to pay it forward and we dont bite...well most don't

Wont start as in: lights on dash and headlights good, starter spins up nice and strong but the engine doesnt catch? when you put a new spark plug in did you make sure the correct contact at the opposite end of the plug? ive seen that before now. same plug but Top of each picture the contact , depend if you ht lead takes one or the other. Ont the first one you unscrew the top shiney nubbin to find the smaller threaded contact to make it the bottom one.

Exhaust/heat wraps
RideWithStyles replied to Matt.u's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
If you leave the bike outside in the weather, leave it over winter, the exhaust is steel with some pitting or other damage yes it can. it will be easier and look much neater if you take the system off to do the wrap. The wraps will degrade, if they are good quality they will last a good few years before needing replacement. -

Also depending on if you got an iron butt and the mentality of dealing with long motorway skullduggery (foreign forbles) for the first time. so no shame in bypassing france on the ferry to top of spain fully freshen and ready for fun, your not missing owt. funny enough but not at the time, france secretly declared a holiday in that area for some unknown reason at really short notice, just under 100miles from ferry my car on fumes, no manned petrol stations open and all the pay by card at the pump wouldn't except any cards unless it was french issued as we found out by chatting to a expat. lets just say that was the icing to the french holiday. -
Sorry to hear that but not surprised, thats why most people avoid them. Well if your in a real pickle id choose the nearest bike it relates to like a suzuki gs and use those as a guideline. Put this down to experience, dont buy one and spread the word.

Basic tool advice
RideWithStyles replied to Jamegumb's topic in Old Motorbikes, Projects and Restorations
Mititoyo, this vernier had it 26 years many of them as engineer and outside the work place, still works now. the other micrometer is somewhere upstairs in a box but I haven't needed it for years. -
Thats good if the dlr are bright enough and should be left at that! cos the normal dipped beams are enough to destroy your retinas if in your direction let alone nobs that use full beam that could sos to france. its because the manufacturers put in cheap leds especially in the rear (with no warning lights if there dead) that die very quickly but cost a fortune to replace.

Clothes for the fat rider!
RideWithStyles replied to CELTICDUFF's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Depends on what type of person how warm blooded are you? any parts more so than others? For me hands are my coldest if its 12degrees or under my hands suffer even off the bike. Do you have the money and space to buy for loads of different seasons kit? Or less as possible keep it to a compromise? other than a decent kit. Heated grips are a no brainier because they are always there on the bike, they are very reliable and get the latest oxford ones which even I barely need to go more than 60% there soo efficient. if your bike design allows it you could add hand guards like off motor croos bikes etc as they will keep wind blast off the hands to make it a solid double combo. now you can get heated gloves. Expensive and as gloves get the most wear and abuse they dont last long. i hate having a heavy chonky weighting the hands and wrists down plus its two more battery packs and wires to mess about with. They dont get super warm, just heat the inside (if so no better than heated grips to start off) or if your lucky the back of the hand but generally not the fingers of the glove properly. heated vest/jacket, keis is generally regarded as the best of the bunch with prices not much different to the rivals of equal quality, dont bother with the cheaper knock offs. If you plug them into the bike's battery with a kit you can run the jacket from the bike but not a battery pack. The vest can be run from the bikes or it own small battery pack so you can use it off the bike or social. If you go the vest it might be good to go up a size to allow space for the BP, or above average build. Both are wind resistant too so helps with layering. you can get pants and shoe insoles from keis too if you really do suffer with those parts. -

Id agree, do the wash but just for extra insulation a cheap over coat will do a very good job for the money, just make sure its big enough for full movement ( racing hump if jacket has it and riding tuck etc) without pulling on the seams to extend its durability. -

If waterproofing layer(s) pores are clogged up with road grime, dead flys, combo of sweat and dead skin to make a film on either side that can and will allow water through the pores of the wp layer, especially if a another layer is pressing against it. throughly clean the garments (jacket and pants) in the washing machine cool temp as gentle synthetics with Nik wax tech wash then reproofer on next wash straight after. now i say it can revitalise and bring it back to normal but if the sowing or the layer is broken it wont solve that. -
If a battery is goosed that can set lights off, fault codes and poor running, which that what the bike would have thought with a small battery. The efi warning can be set off if there is any need for it and set up for it, like injector, coil, sensor, knock sens, tps etc. efi warning dont cover the pump generally, same with cars, had it with the tank pump on the old golf, no lights, no warning, just cut out and never wanted or could be started. Now im not saying the pump isnt dead but you defo need to address the battery.
-
They can just go but potentially yes, depends on how long its been in there. Any how just junk the old one and fit a proper good quality battery if you're gonna keep the bike more than 6 months it will be cheaper in the long run especially if you ride all year. the ytx12 battery which most info points me too is the same as what was on my triumph daytona 955i, three big pistons with fine line electricals off the factory floor, it could manage that in minus degrees, so it wont struggle. Just measure the case that the battery sits in to the new battery and ensure it's polarity point is facing the correct way too.
-
Ah hang on..6ah?..did they do something silly like fit a lithium battery or worse a 6ah lead acid one?
-
something like yuasa ytx12-bs Which is 10ah 180cca. Due to the cv transmission they need a big battery for the extra electric gibberish (extra ecu, accuater, sensors and wiring etc) that goes ontop of the normal gubbings of a bike.

Contra Mootocycles - electric ‘caf-e racer’
RideWithStyles replied to Fiddlesticks's topic in Motorbike Chat
just had time to look a bit more...pure design concept on show. holy moly look at where they put the pegs! They think they're drag racing now? why os the side stand on the right side? Motor is direct hub driven, ok for efficiency. the cabling and wiring through the swing arm to it or is it routed on the outside and through the axle? life time of the bike i can see being problematic unless the shed boys have proper thought it out. those fork shrouds will have to go or be a heck of a lot shorter as there's little space for them allowing the wheel and axle movement with the forks unless its only got 40mm of travel. The front indicators are so small and wedged to the back side of the housing unit that a even if a car driver that pays attention will struggle to see that while front lights are on let along ones not paying attention. rear lights are just a daft idea to cluster so few and different light (light, stop and indicators) into the same small space together... That battery pack is very high up with the centre of the bike pitched to match. they put some cheap super flat almost car like profile tyres, heaven to think how twitchy and hard work that will be with a normal bike tyre. which will make it lazier to turn at first and then suddenly it will want to flop into a corner as weight and tyre profile fight each other. lack of steering lock and the point on the "tank" cover looks like they could dig into the hand / wrist on lock to lock. great if it keeps in the uk as much as possible with parts if available but the Will I Am from black eye pea's design or deloran looks needs a rethink to get some credibility, masses of willing buyers to take a chance on what is already a shaky market. Id question that bike on that stand is road ready like that, when they do make that roadworthy and legal for the masses it will certainly won't look the same, so that will be positive. -
Yes, the bike could have cooked the low capacity battery which would have struggled to cope with the bike long term and gave up the ghost. hopefully due to that directly or indirectly hasnt damaged any components.
