Gerontious Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 So.. after Rob Ms touring mate got clobbered in an accident I asked him back in April if he fancied a trip this summer... in addition to the one already planned for September to the Alps. and after a few weeks he came back to me with a YES. From the start the destination was weather dependent and with this recent heat wave it really looked promising to head across to Bavaria. but, as luck would have it the heat wave is coming to an end and rain from hell.. plus thunderstorms and all sorts are in the forecast.. so plan 'B' - the south of France. we both know the Cote d'Azur really well.. and the mountains/Alps are out of the question due to weather. so. The Languedoc.. somewhere neither of us has ever been.we're crossing on the saturday morning and taking it fairly easy... over 2 days to get to our base at Millau... with a great view of the bridge. But also.. the Gorges du Tarn on the doorstep and plenty of great roads etc to explore. 4/5 days there.. then 2/3 days to get back to the Tunnel on sunday week. (July 2nd) 9 days away in total.weather looks good for the week.. and if it changes, we can always go a little further south towards coast where the forecast is glorious... maybe the french Pyrenees south of Narbonne... But, as Rob was there fairly recently its not a priority to get that far south unless absolutely necessary. we'll just follow the sun if rain threatens.a few photos to give you an idea of what we're heading for... and more added when we get back. Oh reservoir.. Quote

rob m Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Bonjour from Avallon! We arrived here yesterday at 6pm after a trouble free ride from Calais, well apart from Tony nearly breaking a peage machine 336 miles. Lovely little campsite, 9 euros each. Avallon is a pretty town. It's very hot down here and likely to increase. Anyhoo, we're riding to Millau today through the Morvan National Park. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/france%202017/50EA122B-7D25-4374-BB3D-6C2095FE9F31.jpghttp://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/france%202017/441DD327-0A58-4582-969A-7BC66C36CFA7.jpghttp://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/france%202017/08A83F36-F2AF-468E-9857-C69946D4C485.jpg Quote

rob m Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Hello! We arrived in Millau yesterday evening. Staying on a ok-ish campsite. The owner fancies himself as a comedian but we weren't impressed. Weather still hot last night but not too bad today. We rode through the Gorges Du Tarn and very nice it was too. The D996 and D907 are the best roads I've ridden in France so far. Stunning. We also found some gravel strewn roads with extreme hairpins that had the bum clenching once or twice. We've spent the evening having a beer or two and putting the world to rights. Tomorrow, the seaside! Here's a few pictures:http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/france%202017/43D73A6B-BC6A-4248-9C68-8E9C5989693E_2.jpghttp://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/france%202017/D14C47D1-2F05-4693-B442-9BE594475C72.jpghttp://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/france%202017/C9D5A9E4-2A87-44EF-BD73-EA03A6568C56_1.jpghttp://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/france%202017/41B691DF-9A35-4FB1-A65F-353A15C0FA8C.jpghttp://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/france%202017/9BC87FC5-7E5C-49B4-99DF-C534B7370A1E_2.jpghttp://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/france%202017/910740EF-C20F-4A65-A163-C8D876910BB9.jpghttp://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/france%202017/65CEC8F0-D02D-483A-8382-4C375AB4C885.jpghttp://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/france%202017/286C2871-EF72-4B2C-862E-A76711E971CF_1.jpg Quote

Gerontious Posted July 2, 2017 Author Posted July 2, 2017 Home, safe and sound... if a little weary after almost a 400 miler from Épernay to Nottingham. 2278 miles door to door over 8 days (wednesday was a rest day)Languedoc and particularly the region around Millau has a lot to commend itself... those gorges are just stunning. Combe laval is something else. Im more of a doer than a writer upper... so i'll leave Rob to fill in all the gory details. Quote
rob m Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 It was a great 9 days away! Great roads, great company and lots of laughs. I'll try to write a report this week Quote
