I use earplugs. I find I get a head ache after a while particularly when on the motorway.

I've tried loads. I find the musician one's best. I got these recently off Amazon. I can still hear the engine and sirens etc but it takes the edge off. They are comfy and have a silicon strap so the go around your neck without dropping them

I bought the Klaisen plugs, very similar to yours. Great for live concerts but found them rubbish for bikes, they just did not cut the noise down enough.

I use Senner MotoPro silicone earplugs. They cut out wind noise but somehow still allow you to hear traffic and things going on around you. Also very comfy

If you think £20 or more us expensive for ear protection then consider this - having abused my hearing for years I now require hearing aids which come in at a cool £ 3200 a pair. In my day we didn't know better and are now quite literally paying the price. What's your excuse?

Exactly what I have been using for a good while now . I was actually just about to post the very same picture . I'm very pleased with them and I've tried a few . Do they always send you orange ones though ?

I use foam ones. At first they gave me a headache on long journeys but I now snip approx 5mm off the tip of each and have no problems with them at all. On long journey I forget I'm wearing them. They muffle sound extremely well but aren't totally sound proof which is exactly what I want.

I picked up the new ear bungs yesterday and managed to road test them today. Specsavers did the impressions and the plugs were manufactured by Minerva. The negative points first; They are expensive, they cost me £115. I needed to get my ears cleaned to remove an excessive build of wax I had prior to the impressions being made and that cost me £50, so I've spent £165 on these Continuing with the negatives, they are small and it's going to be a very expensive loss if you happen to accidently drop one down a drain. They do come with a soft carrying pouch, so when you take them off they can be secured safely.

The positive points; They fit the ears superbly (as you would expect). The sound insulation is just brilliant and after a continuous ride of nearly 2 hours there was no acoustic leak and they stayed in the ears as snug as when they were put in. I also found that my concentration levels were high from beginning to end of the ride because, I presume there was less fatigue due to the low noise levels.

Lastly, they are quick and easy to fit and remove.

Would I recommend them? Yes.

Should I tell Mrs Smithers I spent all that money on them? No.

PS for scale in the photo, I had to use a ten pence piece. That's all I had left.

They wanted another test session, fresh moulds ("your ears change shape sir") and an estimated cost of well over £100. I'm still using foam disposable earplugs .....

If they’re telling you that your ears will have changed shape after a few months then I’d ask them for a full refund on the custom made hearing aids they recently mis-sold you!

I bought a pair of these (link below - I went with the “squidgy”) at the start of the year and while they are pricey I think they are worth it. Very effective, super comfortable, come with an optional neck cord and pouch to reduce the chance of dropping and losing them. I have also had tinnitus for the past few years due to music related ear abuse and so I’d learned the hard way and wanted to limit any further damage.
