Good news is I've never had tiles come off so easy, I pulled whole sections off by hand. For the rest I used my new toy, an 80mm cranked chisel bit for an SDS drill, I'd definitely recommend anyone taking tiles off to use one if possible, so easy to do. My chisel fitted to the sds isn’t that big, but still wizzed the plaster off the walls in double quick time. I’m thinking I could do with one of those beasts for the rest of the house. After all, it seems that size does count. Quote

I have a big sds that I use 5" core drills with, it is one of the few cheap tools I bought it's been amazing, its just b n q performance branded thing I've had it prob over 10yrs now Just re read, I take it your referring to the size of tiggies tool not the drill, Quote
Tiggie Posted February 15, 2021 Author Posted February 15, 2021 Ahem... Its not the length its the width that matters!....apparently ..... My tool is only a cheap bosch diy jobbie but gets the job done when it counts I lent it to my boss a few years ago when he was renovating a flat he had bought. When he gave it back to me he gave me a brand new one, same make & model, he said he had given mine so much abuse he would feel guilty giving it back 1 Quote

The young lad turned a funny colour when he eventually dug down to expose the old sewer pipe, I offered to help him out at that point 1 Quote

I can imagine the young lad lol. As a family we have a holiday house in France that has a tank under the garden, when we first got the house it stank and needed some work on the inlets???? and there was a blockage somewhere too ......... guess who ended up helping with that one?????? And because of that I was volunteered into helping my dad when the drains were backing up at the church he maintained ...... Not one of my favourite things. Fortunately I managed to be unavailable last time they needed some work on the tanks in france......... apparently it was verrrrrry fragrant work 2 Quote
Bender Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 The proverbial happens, someone has to deal with it, it's usually the things that's not supposed to go down the toilet that causes the problems. I went to a house with 3 toilets 2 up 1 down, they waited till both toilets up stairs no longer flushed properly and then decided to remove down stairs loo, confused as to why that was fine they somehow disconnected the internal stack and got the contents of 5m worth of pipe emptying into the house Toilets were on seperate drains, had they just tapped the pipe they would have known it was full, bet they don't touch soil pipes again. 1 1 2 Quote
Steve_M Posted February 20, 2021 Posted February 20, 2021 Err, yes. We had a slight odour in our dining room not long after we bought the house. We employed someone to sort it out. It seems bodgit and scarper builders incorporated had done some dodgy plumbing to take the stack out of the house and it had broken as it passed through the wall underground. The guy doing the work, familiar as he was with this sort of situation, was working on it in five minute shifts pausing to get breath at regular intervals. I stayed out of the house other than to offer him cups of tea. 1 Quote

Tiggie Posted February 21, 2021 Author Posted February 21, 2021 Heres a helpful tip. Saucepans make great valve/pipe protectors when tiles are raining down 4 Quote
Mickly Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 I am also in the unfortunate position of refurbing a down stairs loo for the step daughter. I’ve ripped the basin out and capped the pipes, I can find no sign of a leak but there’s a small puddle every morning. The top pipe ( cold ) seems to have water along the underside of its length, could this be condensation rather than a leak? She wouldn’t have noticed before as it was behind a built in unit. Quote

Condensation, it's the main feed to the house, lag it. 1 Quote
husoi Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 If not condensation wrap some toilet paper around it and you will find out where the leak is Quote
husoi Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 This would be a more efficient solution. https://www.diy.com/departments/polyethylene-foam-pipe-lagging-l-1m-dia-28mm/1906886_BQ.prd Quote
