Just enquired at Blade Triumph Stratford for a 12000 mile service for the mighty Speedtriple .... £1000 !!

Looks like it’ll be a oil change at Chez Mickly & that’s it !!

What is it due to have done that costs that much? What is on the schedule?

They reckon it’s 8 hours labour.

Oil & filter change

Brake & clutch fluid change

Valve clearances

Strip & grease rear suspension linkages - something that is occasionally charged for but not done !!

Other ‘checks’

Valve clearance at 12k miles????

8hrs? 🤔 must include sleeping time from 4am and lunch time for sure.

fairly normal for modern large capacity bikes. with some exceptions due to easier access.

Honda allows 8hrs for the valve check (etc) service on my bike.

I don't dispute a large amount of hours, my ST takes forever to get access to the valves, what I don't understand is the check at 12k

My ST is at 23k and I have no intention to touch it

No wonder PCP seems so appealing

not for me it isn't.  a 4,000 mile per year limit means for the duration of the plan, this check never happens. it may be this limit suits some people.

Yeah, what I meant was that by the time the Bike returns at the Max miles over 3 years they wouldn’t need to pay for the 12k service .... unless it’s sneakily deducted from the future value?

what surprises me is the fact your surprised ... take it you never looked into servicing charges when you bought the machine ..

incidentally .. running an engine with improper valve clearances can cause damage to the valve seats .. particularly  the exhaust ones .. which are invariably the ones that need adjustment .. just sayin to save you another surprise ..

Good independent would be alot less than that.

Had similar price for an audi, something like 80k service, that's when the full main dealer service came to a stop.

Yep, I think Independent is the way to go

Have you heard of a guy called Muddy Sump? He is ex triumph, comes to you and does a cracking job. I highly recommend, he does the service on my Explorer  Only problem is he travels round and does work in areas so you can't necessarily get him at short notice

Thinking of Behind Bars in Kenilworth, would you recommend them @fastbob ?

No . The only job I had done there was a clutch replacement on my GSXR because I couldn't get the centre nut off .  They told be to bring it in on a Monday and they were just getting started on at five o'clock on the Friday . Not acceptable when it's about an hour's work . I supplied the clutch and gasket so there was no excuse for a whole week of bullshit every time I phoned up . A few years ago he offered to sell me a rusty Royal Enfield for £600 but when I turned up with the money he denied that we had discussed a price . That said I still use them for my MOT because I got fed up with Ken B .

Thanks for the heads up.

Funnily enough, I’ve got the MoT booked with Ken for Monday.

Triumph servicing is very expensive, I paid £650 for the 12k mile service on my street triple.

I’d might have been ok at that, but this is £350 more !!

I have no personal experience but I think these guys in Meriden are worth a look . http://www.roadandraceperformance.co.uk/

Haha, they were the ones who I took the Trophy to for jetting and hence being in the middle of the engine rebuild

- not that they did anything wrong, just the purveyors of bad news.

I seem to recall that they quoted me £600 to shim and balance the GSXR but in the end I checked all the clearances myself and they were all within service limits at around 40,000 miles . I had the bike from 4,000 miles and I never bothered with the 5,000 mile service or any other recommended service for that matter . I just changed the oil and filter every year and polished it . Speaking of Ken B , he once told me that a direct acting bucket and shim engine should stay within valve clearance limits for " The life of the bike " whatever that means .
