Scrub that booking and probably trip cancelled as I wont have time to find other accommodation. Having been advised that I would be breaking government guidelines as the company policy for the present time is not to accept leisure booking.

Although they will take the booking made as a leisure booking stating "father and daughter arriving by motorbike", luckily I could still cancel through the booking site for free.

Disappointed as I was starting to look forward to some time away with my daughter.

what ... hotel wont let you stay cause your not on business .... you can go on holiday in uk as long as self contained and self catering as i understand it ??

Just a thought !

Have you looked at Airbnb?

I used them for self contained accom over new year and had no issues.

At the time I was surprised but as it suited me I kept schtum and carried on.

Cheers

Bummer there. In normal times a decent place for breakfast believe it or not is Gloucester  Services on the M5 North or South. Other than that can't really help as living here I don't tend to eat breakfast out.

I was hoping for your advice in the pubs doing take out.

Misses on the case part of her job is accommodation.  She's found some but no cancellation option and want to be more certain of weather.

The difference between 5-6 & 8-10 degrees on s bike as pillion massive.

As I pointed out we did not want to eat there. Just a room ensuite toilet and shower.

Plan A had been a small campsite and being the only visitors.

If you look closely at the rules are all a bit interpratable.

You cannot stay in your second home for leisure but you can for maintenance.

Same with your boat, you can sail it for leisure but you cannot stay on it except for maintenance...

and don't forget that, to start with, the toilets/showers/washing up facilities won't be open either!

You have to be self contained

Self-contained accommodation such as campsites and holiday lets, where indoor facilities are not shared with other households, can also reopen, so does this mean no tents, unless you poop in the woods... confused

Edit: Just realised showers/WC open 17th May so camping in a tent is a no until then I suppose

Caravan sites.

Both leisure (owners) and rental can re open.

But hotels and B&B etc still closed to holiday makers.

Self contained only I'm afraid at the moment.

Yet another example of utter inconsistency. Presumably a camping ground with a shared toilet block for folks in tents is a no go but presumably caravans etc with their own internal toilet facilities are OK. At the same time most public toilets in my areas are open so what exactly is the difference? Wild camping has always required more basic sanitation but is it allowed? Used to camp in places like Kielder forest often. Nobody ever knew we were there.

The changes in the rules are here and if you read them to the letter there is actually pretty much no change.
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/covid-19-coronavirus-restrictions-what-you-can-and-cannot-do

"Travelling within England
You should minimise travel where possible. This means you should:

avoid making unnecessary trips
combine trips where possible
You should not stay away from home overnight for a holiday."

"Staying away from home overnight
You should not stay overnight in a second home, caravan or boat, if that is not your primary residence, unless it is necessary to do so. For example, for work, moving home, to attend a medical appointment, or to avoid injury, illness or harm (including domestic abuse). You should not be going on holiday at this stage."

So what can I/ we actually do?
Reading the rules to the letter, motorbike runs are unnecessary, so are trips to the local pub even if they are open.  "Unnecessary travel" (we get supermarket deliveries for food).

The next time my daughter and I get the chance to go for a night away on the bike will be in October, our next holiday will be in August.  Since last August we have only been able to walk the dogs due to the access schedule and COVID Rules.

The only break I have during this whole pandemic where I have not been working or confided to the house (except walking the dogs) was 1 week last August.

Sailing is now totally out because the boat needs maintenance (she has not been out for 2 years she is now VERY weedy) that I can actually do now but the marina lifts are fully booked on the days I am available due to work.

So how can I justify it?
Looking down the update above the best reason I can find is I am "facing issues related to their sexuality or identity (including those living as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender)" and I want to have time with my daughter to discuss it away from my partner.

There that makes it necessary and should give anyone questioning something to think about ☠️.

Written after a long late shift where I ended up getting caught on the beach in an expected hail/ sleet squall wearing a T shirt and did not get a break until 8 hours in. Sometimes its good to have something to look forward to.

We've had the letter through stating as of April 12th our site is open and we can stay.

For the last couple of weeks we could have gone over and cleaned etc (did last Thursday) but we were not allowed to stay over.

It is a necessary trip.

I need beer in a pub garden and need to wind up people of east Yorkshire inhabitants.....

Reading the the government guidance to the letter that would not be allowed.

Overnight stays away from home in England will be permitted and self-contained accommodation can also reopen, though must only be used by members of the same household or support bubble.

Very true however for what reason?

I feel we may be interpreting the rules differently.

All I know is from Monday I will be at the coast. Drinking lager.

Even better. Its only me n dog going.

As someone who has worked stupid hours for the last 12 month and as a hell of a lot of others on here is an essential worker I feel I've earned it.

I won't be flaunting the rules. Hornsea is my second home. I contribute to their economy and also volunteer locally.  (Jesus, Ull FC is even my second team)

@Stu  see thee next week kidder....lol

On Monday I'm going north probably to camp on my parents' floor while I try and get them some support care sorted. If it drags on then I'll decamp to my daughter's place as she won't be there but it's 60 odd miles so a longish commute and if the weather is crap prone to snow.

The ironic thing I agree everything you have written is correct, look at my reason for starting this post I have every intention of going away.

The problem is it is clearly against the written guidelines as published by the government website and quoted above Second home vacation etc.

Now try booking accommodation for one night, you have to find out which rules they are following I am still looking.

I'm even more confused than I was before!

I'll try to make sense of whatever the rules may be the next time I get time off
