NeilM Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Well. We are on the midst of a by-election here. Polling day. I have never seen an election so tense and to be honest bordering on violence. (We had a threatened far right March last Saturday when Tommy Robinson was supposed to be turning up. His arse went and never showed, neither did the EDL. Mass counter demo etc) Got the Scottish shower of shit Galloway standing??? This is obviously splitting the left vote along race lines. We have several far right parties standing , at least 2 neo communist parties along with various other mis fits that have for reasons only they can explain decended on our town. 16 different candidates in total. So far today alone we have had 7 door knocks asking us to vote. For those who don't know where I live, we are in the constituency where Jo Cox was murdered. We then had a coronation street actress as MP. She became mayor of West Yorkshire. Thus the need for the election. As someone who is relatively political. Even I can't wait for it to be over. It's not going to go my way. The Scottish twat has split the vote (can't work out whose paid him off. The tories or the taliban!!!) The red wall will have now truly crumbled by the morning. This is not a brexit vote like Hartlepool. This is the heartlands gone. Quote
S-Westerly Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Was always on the cards. So much of the labour party isn't in tune with the electorate. Where I used to live in Wesr Valley we had a decent MP - Hilary Armstrong and of course Labour. She retired and at the last election the sitting MP was Laura Piddock. An absolutely loathsome woman who managed to piss off the electorate big style. Surprisingly she lost. This is the sort of thing happening all round the country. Kim Leadbetter strikes me as a decent woman same as her sister did but her own lifestyle would make her a hard sell with some of her would be constituents and labour's latest wheeze of playing Hindus of against Muslims isn't exactly astute. 1 Quote
Tiggie Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Was watching this on the news last night. I've never seen so many parties running for a local election!! Quote
NeilM Posted July 1, 2021 Author Posted July 1, 2021 Thats what Galloways doing. Playing the gay card. Thus the muslim population some of which and by no means all are quite homophobic and are turning against her. She is bar a couple of the loony far righters the only local candidate. She still lives here and made a point of posting yesterday and today that she actually has a vote unlike the others. But. All that said. Labour would still have walked it if the left hadn't been split. As said. This isn't a brexit issue election. We voted to remain so its very different to Hartlepool. She does seem a good un. Only concern from me when it was announced she was standing, was the lack of years she's been in the party. Just had the shadow health Secretary at the door earlier. She got chapter and verse about Starmer.... 1 Quote

Police out in force. Could all go wrong here. Can feel the racial tension in the air. Lisa just got home, Galloway presently driving up and down the predominantly Asian area ontop of his open top bus flying Palestine flags.... Stirring things up in the extreme. 3 people already arrested during the week for assaulting Labour canvasses. Glad I'm still knacked wi back. Keeping me out of bother....lol 1 1 Quote
Bender Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Watched some of it on the news certainly an interesting mix Quote

KiwiBob Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 If the voters there are anything like the thick as mince ones in Hartlepool I despair! In Hartlepool the voters blamed Labour for austerity, lack of Police, Hospitals etc ... I don't think they knew that the Tories had been in power for the last 11 years! Quote

Immigration and brexit played a massive part in the hartlepool election. The vast majority of us aren't thick. But certainly some are being manipulated and lied to. Quote
KiwiBob Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 (edited) Only the very rich and the very stupid vote Tory .. I can't believe that the 12,973 that voted Tory are all very rich! They need to check their wallets to see which category they are. Edited July 2, 2021 by KiwiBob Quote

But I have friends and members of my extended family who vote tory. They aren't stupid or rich. I may call them deluded but its their belief set. We have anti tory stuff in the house, but they are just as welcome here as People who share my beliefs. Thats what makes the world a better place. 1 Quote
S-Westerly Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 I'm generally a tory voter. Certainly not rich and don't consider myself thick either. A lot depends on your personal experience of life and also perhaps of family history. There's reasons I'll never vote socialist which are valid for me. Liberals were an option until they became more left than Labour. Quote

General political sweeping statements make great sound bites, unfortunately calling any one stupid or rich because they don't think or believe the same as you is unlikely to be very accurate. This is a motorbike forum for light hearted banter let's not go down the rabbit hole of political insults 2 Quote

S-Westerly Posted July 3, 2021 Posted July 3, 2021 As I've said I'm no labour supporter but fair dos to Kim Leadbetter getting elected. I suspect she'd have had a bigger majority if not for that arse Galloway. I don't think many Tory voters would have been tempted to cast a vote for him! Hancock's Hankypanky probably didn't help us either. 1 Quote

It was the hypocrisy of telling people to do one thing then doing precisely the opposite himself that did for him. Same as Cummings, who Boris also failed to tackle properly. A party led by a man with no moral compass needs to think long and hard about what message the public are hearing. In the long run it will backfire because eventually people will realise they've been conned. 2 Quote
Essem Posted July 3, 2021 Posted July 3, 2021 Tough times for voters at the moment, faced with choosing the least worst rather than believing your chosen party will deliver. Better off going for a blast on the bike, forget the buggers. 1 Quote

We are a strange constituency in some respect. We have areas of considerable wealth but also also of recognised deprivation. The voting patterns never really change. The tories remain blue no matter what. The reds remain red. The only difference this time was the split red vote. Boris was totally wrong stating it was so close to a victory in his spin. It could have been but by default. Our majority would have been plus 7000 easily if you minus the Scottish twats votes. I'm just hoping everything settles down a bit now. Kim delivers and we can get back to some normality. 1 Quote
