Next year I should be in the market for a Harley Dyna . Like the Sportster , have a very firm idea of exactly what I want right down to the model , the year and the colour . A few people have told me I'll be looking a really long time , and maybe I will . In the meantime , here it is , my perfect Harley . It's a great price for the mileage . The forward controls and comfey seat would have to go but this is exactly what I have my heart set on ..

I am not wealthy . I will have paid off the Sportster next Spring . Then begins the agonising process of having to sell it and find the right replacement at the same time .

Whats the difference to the sportster.

Not a lot to be honest . Bigger and more comfortable maybe . The engine is more characteristic of the traditional image and sound of a Harley  I suppose . There's no rational decision making when it comes to Harleys . You just see one and want one .

Nothing even remotely rational about biking I think that may be the appeal 😛

Did a bit of a Google and its apparently the next logical step after the sportster, a fairly common upgrade path, it's a one way switch, sportster to dyna but rarely the other way.

I concur but found it easier to skip the sportster bit lol.

Having spent years slagging off Hardley Fookin Movinson I was very pleasantly surprised at the midrange and acceleration and it is a hoot to play about on.

Not bad for little tours either.002.thumb.JPG.a4475161e7e0c8c01a80ad777d1e558f.JPG

Carol and I have done trips to Derbyshire, Herefordshire (twice), Shropshire and a weekend over to Wales so I think it has a place in the stable.

Cheers

I like the look of the new fat bob, but the annual service estimate is a bit scary 😂

My Dyna is 2012 and I see no reason why a dealer will ever do more than supply the occasional parts.

I enquired just for fun about a rear tyre change at a well known Harley specialist near a reservoir up my way and he told me they charged £96 per hour ! My how I laughed.

Cheers

You would be surprised actually . I have read many accounts on the Sportster Sickness page about people buying Dynas and then coming back to Sportsters .

Yes that`s the one lol.

For mechanical advise best to enquire in the queue for a coffee and a burger outside.

Well , there's Facebook in general , and there's being in a specific special interest group . I'm in Coventry Bikers , Sportster Sickness , Keil Kraft models , and a few others . Absolutely invaluable for trading parts and advice and finding out about runs and events . The rest you can simply ignore .

I love the old time designs on a calm evening. Especially now brushless motors and lipos make them quiet and clean.

Most of mine are scaled up rubber models with a brushless motor and rudder only .
