peepae Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 Emissions are low, and most motorcycles are ULEZ compliant but still once you get a 600cc bike - pay up! Maybe I haven't done enough research or know the right keywords to search... Quote
Tiggie Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 It is because with bikes they go by the size of the engine rather than c02 emissions to determine price Quote
fullscreenaging Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 (edited) It’s only recently (last few years) that bike tax has started to go up. Edited November 25, 2023 by fullscreenaging Quote
bonio Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 I guess it depends on your bike whether the current systems works out well for your or not. My MV provides the world with 148.5 g CO2 per km. If it was a car, the tax would be £255 a year. As bike, it's £111. 2 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 Because once again the government forgets (fails to update its policies) that motorcycles are part of the transportation section and worthy of consideration unless its hoody yobs or crims giving a bad name... 1 Quote
bud Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 My scooter went up 12.5% on road tax this year. Still not a lot. But it's starting to add up with that sort of percentage every year. Quote

Geordie Oldie Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Guy with a rotary engine Mazda near me pays about 600 quid a year. Quote
DJP Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 If my MT07 had been a car it would have been zero tax instead of £100 a year... 1 Quote

Apart from the leather fetishism you could be right although the dreams are probably less delusional than they used to be. 1 Quote

Capt Sisko Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 (edited) Because the Government really doesn't want to encourage the population to use motorcycles. We're vulnerable, noisy, difficult to see, weave in & out of traffic, don't pay for parking or conform to whatever 'being normal' is. Plus, whilst motorcyclist account for just 1% of the traffic we account for 18% of road deaths. That makes us an expensive group when looked at police/ NHS and social costs. Now, whilst above might sound all doom & gloom the bottom line is we're bumping along below the radar and that ain't a bad thing. Very little of the legislation that's been applied to cars has been applied to motorbikes and I'm kind of quietly grateful for that. Edited December 10, 2023 by Capt Sisko typo 7 Quote
