manxie49 Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 I use a Blink system, bought from Amazon. Cost me £145, it came with one wire free outdoor camera, one wire free video doorbell and one sync module. You can pay for a subscription if you want but you can also use it subscription free. You can plug a USB memory stick into the sync module and that will record all your video alert footage. I've had the system for a little over a year and still haven't had to replace batteries. You can download the app and get alerts to your phone and monitor the cameras from your mobile device. Easy to set up, straight forward to use, and the system can also be expanded upon. Video quality is also pretty good. Just type blink cameras into Amazon for a look. 1 1 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 (edited) Eufy from Amazon here. Has the option to have cloud recording (for a fee) but can also store recordings locally for those who are not into life by subscription. We have a camera keeping an eye on the conservatory, and a doorbell/camera for the front. It can ping your phone when it spots a person / pet / movement. Different modes for "home" and "away" although geo-fencing doesn't seem to work too well. The doorbell lasts a few months and is charged via usb (or you can hard wire it). Update: on clip length.. AstronautNinja Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 There's some banging wireless cameras etc on amazon, many that will link to Alexas, phones, flood lights and other sensors. I never ended up getting any but there's some impressive and cheap set ups available. Consider where the memory card actually is, you want it in an internal hub or via a cloud system, far too many have the card built into the unit which strikes me as too easily stolen should footage become important. 1 Quote

Yes, it will, but if it continues to sense movement it will continue to record in 30 second clips. Our neighbour came into our garden to cut his hedge and I'd forgot to turn the camera off, I ended up with a whole load of 30 second clips to go through and delete. 1 Quote

rennie Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 Some sort of cctv/ring doorbell something is on our to do list! Not a priority yet! 1 Quote
Tiggie Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 I had a ring doorbell for quite a few years, no real issues. I have switched to a nest doorbell now as it integrates better with our google hubs we have in house. We have one of these in living room and kitchen.. .. Alerts and show's on screen when someone presses doorbell or even just comes near door. Very nice as well to shout go away through the speaker when certain relatives come around 1 Quote
Pie man Posted October 27, 2024 Posted October 27, 2024 (edited) We run a Ring Door Bell and 3 Blink cameras, works well for us however I was seeking to hard wire a full CCTV system but not sussed out which yet. The Ring is good, but the annual subscription has gone up quite a bit, were as the blink is free, it records and saves the clips for 7 days then it auto deletes, you can set when to record movement i.e. from 11pm to 7am and you receive notification on your phone. We have one camera to keep an eye on the dog, so this doesn't record, just live views. Edited October 27, 2024 by Pie man Quote

I have ring door bell and ring stick up camera at the back. The battery life seems good, approx 6 weeks notification at 30%. The batteries take 12hours plus to charge, so I bought a 3rd so I can change and charge at will. Functionality seems good you can share cams to other users. My ring door bell is in glass porch it doesn’t detected motion outside the porch but that’s fine. If I wanted coverage at the front I would buy a camera to go outside the porch. Some couriers can drop post undetected. it all does as it says. They work on 2.5khz wifi, so make sure you have that in relevant places particularly with cams. By the nature you can find yourself on the edge of wifi coverage. 1 Quote
Mawsley Posted October 28, 2024 Posted October 28, 2024 We have a door. Someone knocks at it, I open it, collect parcel for daughter, they go away. I fear I’m missing out now, knowing I could watch it all unfold on a screen and store the exciting event for prosperity. 4 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted October 28, 2024 Posted October 28, 2024 Most are noisy as fook outside! But don’t work inside their homes I’m guessing? There are a few neighbours with them, we can hear the things chime as loud a church bell even over 100yrd away….the amazon dudes eventually tune it out or have earphones in (probably avoid hearing loss) but the owners never seem to notice. They should be regulated as to the db level. 1 Quote

There is a constant stream of parcels coming to ours for onward delivery - usually when I'm on the toilet. 2 Quote
Ian Frog Posted October 28, 2024 Posted October 28, 2024 Strange delivery system you have there ! Cheers Ian Quote

Now if you had a ring door bell you could at least announce that your making a special delivery of your own when the postie comes knocking 3 Quote
