Popular Post husoi Posted December 18, 2024 Popular Post Posted December 18, 2024 The opportunity arose for the to make the great move. Somewhere in south Asia, away from cold, political correctness, haggis, riding 3 days a year and all those things that make the Scottish riding a thrilling adventure even if very short one. Having consulted with the governmental authority in the capital I was informed that the amount of tax plus sea transport and all the other things together bring the bikes will be an expensive option. Better buy new ones when moving. Therefore, although sadly, I will have to sell both including the trailer for the pan. I won't be finishing the clock I was working on, apologies to @Stu But more pressing and urgent tasks got in the way. I have all the parts and there is little remaining to be done if anyone wants to take over the project. Finally, you won't get rid of me that easily. I'll always be around to wind you guys up 18 Quote

Fozzie Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Nice! Where specifically in Asia or is that bit secret? Could you ship me a Honda CB150X back? Had one in Bali as a rental and fell in love! Was gutted to learn there's no real way to import one other than buying one locally and shipping it. Quote

Just saw brand new ones in 2 places in Lombok shopping centre. Personally, anything less than 400cc isn't something I would like. And I like to feel the power between the legs not under my arse 2 1 Quote
Bender Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Bali is a lovely island spoilt only by tourists and Australians Quote

My sister hired a PCX like the one pictured but in white. And was a good little introduction to 2 wheels. I couldn’t be tempted away, had to be a bike with gears. The CB150X reminded me of my old Varadero 125, but with all the problems I had with it solved. In Nusa Penida I was reduced to a Honda Vario and it was fun but more challenging than I liked. The roads there were so bad and it so small, it was hard work all the time. I had the suspension overwhelmed with just me on it, and I had a pillion. Should have gone for the Yamaha Xmax. Saw a few 250cc two stroke Kawasakis. If I were to live out there, the Honda would be the daily, the 250 the weekend toy. 2 Quote

Yes roads in Bali are a disgrace, almost as bad as Scotland On the other hand Lombok's roads are much better. Less people around, far less tourists ruining it for everyone. 4 Quote
husoi Posted December 26, 2024 Author Posted December 26, 2024 Good day you all Today is the last day of the "holidays" in Lombok island. For those wondering, it's the island next to Bali. Second time here and I'm sorry to say probably the last. Lombok was on the run as destination for settling, however, after travelling around the island for the last week I got really disappointed with the appalling conditions the local government is maintaining it. The fly tipping, general rubbish and the bad conditions of the roads are only matched by Scotland. Only the weather is better, There is a general apathy of the population. Countryside is even worse with very few places that could appeal for a permanent house. Traffic is always busy, even at 1am. Although there is some big improvements on the roads this covers only a small part of the island, west and north, with the need of a Chelsea tractor for the majority of the roads around here. Will need to find a better island 4 Quote
S-Westerly Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 I think you may struggle to find one as what you've described is pretty well what I've seen in Java and Sumatra too. Malaysia as well for that matter. Locals are not westerners and have a completely different mindset to us. Not to say you can't settle happily in the East but it's not easy. The only guys I know who have achieved have all married locals. Some with long lasting success others less so. Anyway good luck in your search! BTW generally Scottish roads are better than English at least in my experience! 4 Quote

My sister was until recently, in Perth Australia and only 4 hours flight away from Bali. Only another 4 to Japan. Or is there a reason it has to be east Asia? Like culture/work? Cost of living in Perth is quite low compared with Sydney, although outside of the main city there isn't much I'm told. Might not be as good as living there directly, but it's on the same time zone, and about the same flight time as going to Greece from the UK. Know what you mean on the traffic noise. I climbed Mt Batur, which started at 1am and the scooters with chopped off exhausts were always in earshot. Around 4am it was like rush hour began and it got really noisy. bonio Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Perth is just lovely. I could easily live there. Except it's rather sleepy, and it must be the most isolated city on earth. The nearest place with any buzz and culture to offer is... oh, I don't know... Bangkok, perhaps. 2 Quote
