Tinkicker Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Its one of those times when I am doing a little soul searching... I have three bikes to insure and keep roadworthy. Do I really need them? My heart says keep them, my head says sell them and buy something like an Africa Twin to do some serious miles on when I retire, or a full motion rig for my flight simulators. Ok, the VFR would do the miles, no bother, but not really the thing for two up long distances. The other two are not serious road bikes and never were. Just low mileage fun bikes to hoon around on once in a while... My heart gazes fondly, while my head says I am looking at around £9K of dead money taking up room in the conservatory.... What a quandary.. 2 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted March 15 Posted March 15 In the same position. In my case getting either one of the other two bikes out of the garage is a big double shuffle. Plus insurance, tax, mot, etc. I think two is optimal. 1 Quote
S-Westerly Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Probably not needed BUT if you can afford them and do use them and have space - why not? Unfortunately I don't have space and serious marital discord would result if I did go for a second. Plus I'd probably not get the use with being away a lot. Quote
Fleck Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Well the two in the photo don't look very nice so definitely sell those. Africa twin a good choice Just my opinion of course feel free to ignore 2 Quote

Tinkicker Posted March 16 Author Posted March 16 Yup. Should a nuclear warhead detonate in the vicinity, I can guarantee that the two bikes in the pic will be the only two running vehicles for miles around... If they survive the fireball of course. Of course, you all know me by now, I have a spare VFR750 CDI lounging in an old biscuit tin for such a scenario.Dunno what is wrong with me. My default stance is always "what if"? Maybe it is because I always had shit luck... 1 Quote
bud Posted March 16 Posted March 16 It's better to have it and not need it. Especially hard parts to find. Quote
husoi Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Look at it on the woodwork perspective. You can't have too many clamps. Same with bikes. Unless you don't have the space. Then you need to clear the living room 2 Quote
Old-codger Posted March 16 Posted March 16 The two yamahas must be close too or over the fourty year rule so no tax and mot. The vfr is beautiful to look at so I think you should keep all three and by another bike, you know it makes sense. 3 Quote

husoi Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Besides.. Aren't they support bikes? For benefit of your mental health. 1 Quote

husoi Posted March 27 Posted March 27 More bikes means less mileage on each one I would rather have 5 bikes with 2k miles than 1 with 10k miles Then you need a bike for each occasion. You can't go to the cafe on a yabusa, that's what cruisers are for. You can't go touring on a 250. You need a tourer for that. Pretty much like women with shoes... 1 1 1 Quote
billysugger Posted March 27 Posted March 27 My reasoning was the second bike was a back up in case main bike breaks down and you need to get to work Quote

What a quandary.. It's a very strange question and one that must be answered in a sincere way. KEEP THEM.. enough said. Plus take loads of pix too. But if you do deceide to sell them, our classifieds that is free for all to use and sell could help. Not pushing you to sell them, If I had the option, keeping them would be the best option. Quote
Terry Came Posted March 27 Posted March 27 I have four cars and can justify, [to myself], each and every one. Okay, you have to pay insurance, tax and MoT's. However, I was talking to a friend who plays golf. £1500 per year just to belong to the club. When put in that context, owning four cars, or four bikes, if we enjoy them, is very affordable. 3 Quote
Steve_M Posted March 28 Posted March 28 Toss a coin for each bike. Every time the coin ends up on its edge, sell that bike. The bottom line on this is that only you can answer the question. You do make a good point about touring with the Viffer. A great bike, perfectly capable of touring on but not the best platform for the pillion (though my good lady did enjoy some weekends away on my 1998 VFR800, she prefers a higher seat and more leg room afforded by the Tiger and GS I’ve subsequently owned). Thank you, mate. I've three bikes and a car, and you've just made me feel a tad better about myself 1 Quote

If you enjoy having them then continue to do so; maybe even get more You can always get rid of one later if you change your mind. Quote
