Simon Davey Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Hardly surprising. The police in some places actually carry decibel meters. Not a bad thing in my opinion. As much as I love to hear my bike scream, I don't like it all weekend, every weekend in the summer around our farm. It does get pretty feckin annoying. Yes, I'm guilty as charged, I'm openly hypocritical. 3 Quote

Mississippi Bullfrog Posted March 22 Posted March 22 The lads on tiny bikes who razz up and down our hill have all removed any form of noise dampening in the mistaken belief people will think they are riding a big bike. They don't realise how farty a small bike sounds. 1 3 Quote
Simon Davey Posted March 22 Posted March 22 My bike was awful when I got it, the Beowolf cans sounded like I was riding through a tunnel. Beowolf sell road legal baffles, which I duly bought and installed. Not only is my bike quieter, but the actual sound is far sportier than before. 1 Quote
bud Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Anti tamper legislation has already been introduced since Euro 4. With every Euro regulations since, it's got tougher. It's not just exhausts. It's making other stuff harder to modify too. If you brought an aftermarket factory option exhaust from Euro 5 on. It didn't come with a removable baffle. Even if the same pipe did brought through a third party. They really don't want you working on your bike in the future. I agree with the stupid loud kids riding round with eBay exhausts. Just sound loud with no tone to them at all. 1 Quote
Bender Posted March 22 Posted March 22 I agree with it all we live near dual carriageway and by near I mean several streets away and in the warmer months all you hear in the morning is idiots screwing bikes in first and second, I would pay for one of those decibel cameras We also have some phantom rider who likes to hoon around about 2am on a weekend I would pay for them to be shipped to the front line in Ukraine where they could make as much noise as they wanted 1 3 Quote
S-Westerly Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Round my neck of the woods the loudest bikes are 125's with the usual high pitched noise. When I get home I'll be fitting an after market exhaust system to my bike which is no louder than the OEM but is a hell of a lot more aesthetic imo. 2 Quote
V650 Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Thought you were not in the EU any more so why are they still implementing EU reg's Quote

Manufacturers make for the European market and that includes us along with all the other non EU countries in the region. Plus our net zero loons don't want to be outdone by EU eco-loons. 4 Quote
Steve_M Posted March 23 Posted March 23 (edited) I really dislike loud pipes. They don’t seem to be such an issue here - the occasional 125 with a dodgy exhaust having the nuts revved off it to climb up the nearby hill. That’s it. My dislike stems from when I lived in Acle in Norfolk. Some of you may know the A47 from Acle to Gt Yarmouth - the “Acle straight”. 7 miles of near straight road. Sitting enjoying a peaceful beer in my garden on a still evening, ruined by the frequent sound of loud exhausts. Some so loud I could hear them roll off the throttle for the slight bend at the Stracey* Arms 3 miles from my garden. *No longer a pub, it seems. Edited March 23 by Steve_M 3 Quote
Throttled Posted March 23 Posted March 23 I live near a straight that bikers use as a drag strip. I also prefer quieter exhausts. 2 Quote
Capt Sisko Posted March 23 Posted March 23 (edited) Like Throttled, the village where I live has a miles worth of dead straight coming out of it and both riders & drivers go for it. You occassional hear a car, you frequently hear motorbikes. As Simon Davey effectivly said, call me a hypocrit, I'm that as well. In my youth it was an RD400 with Micron expansion chambers on followed by a Z650 4 into 1 Harris that would have woken up Rip Van Winkle from his deepest of slumbers. If I was twenty again I'd probably be out there thinking how good it sounded along with the best of them. Do I blame youngsters for wanting their loud exhaust? No. Would they take any notice of a grumpy old git like me if I challenged them about it? No, (just as I wouldn't have done forty years ago either). Do I wish they chose some other straight to gun it at 6 o'clock on a Sunday morning? Absolutely yes! Edited March 24 by Capt Sisko 2 Quote
Davidtav Posted March 23 Posted March 23 I kind of agree with everyone. But I look back fondly to the 1970s when I had a Fizzie. Everyone had them. Didn’t they? Usually with the baffles removed. I thought I was very cool because I had replaced the pedal type pedals with proper foot pegs. Probably illegal. Who knows? … and my L Plates. Well honestly it was just a little bit of an L stuck to the shock absorber … in truth I do feel sorry for the youth of today regimented up to their eyeballs 4 Quote
Davidtav Posted March 23 Posted March 23 I wish I still had my Fizzie actually. Long gone I’m afraid. Unless anyone knows otherwise. Reg number PUP 93M. … if I still had it then it would be restored an in a cabinet inside my house. … I sold it for £50 around 1979 1 Quote

Going for crazy money now. 1 Quote
Simon Davey Posted March 23 Posted March 23 There's an FS1E hanging on the wall at Hythe Hill Motorcycles (Colchester). Quote
