  1. I disagree with you on this point. The test we do in the UK is pretty much as the directive describes it (see here for the text https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=CELEX:02006L0126-20201101&from=EN#tocId35). Some countries have opted not to implement parts of it (for example, Italy doesn't test slow manoeuvering for cat A if it's already been tested at A1 or A2. Ireland don't do a slalom), but this is out of line with the directive. Others, like Germany make it even harder than the standard the EU sets (they have three slalom tests which you have to do at increasing speeds).
  2. Doof. I was wrong again In Germany they do the slalom and emergency stops and so on "on a quiet street". In Ireland, you just have to do a U turn and slow riding: no slalom, no emergency stop, no avoidance (https://www.rsa.ie/en/RSA/Learner-Drivers/Motorcyclists/The-Motorcycle-Test/). Apart from Spain and UK, I haven't found another country that has an off-road part to the test. Edit - this article implies that Italy do part of the test off the road. https://www.motorpasionmoto.com/conduccion/si-te-quieres-sacar-el-carnet-de-moto-aqui-tienes-como-es-cada-uno-como-son-sus-examenes-y-sus-precios
  3. None of the other EU states have an off-road part to their test. I believe only the UK implemented the directive in full. As @XTreme says, nothing will change when the UK leaves; there too much at stake to undo it all. So the funny outcome will be that the only country to follow the directive in full won't be in the EU.
  4. Tbh I wouldn't be happy parking a bike up in the same place each night without it being chained to something very solid. But what about an alarmed disc lock. Might be useful if you can park near enough to be woken up. a decent tracker, like biketrak or whatever the other one is - the ones where fork out £100 a year in subscriptions. They both claim 95% recovery rates.
  5. EU directives mandate that the motorcycle test include slow riding and a slalom. Since you can't do a slalom on the public roads, that part of the test is done at an offroad test facility.
  6. We've been downgraded from a sunny weekend
  7. Even so, all's well that ends well.
  8. Beginning to wonder whether, when the forum was upgraded, our old messages were all resurrected from beyond the grave and stuck back in our inboxes. I found 650 odd messages in my inbox, and had to delete the lot as it was too painful to delete them one by one.
  9. If that colour grew on me I'd be taking a hasty trip to the doctors.
  10. Are you really Portuguese @husoi? I've been reading all your posts with a Scots accent. Pity I ought to stop, cos they sound great that way.
  11. Hi @alex_from_JandS, we've been hoping you'd drop by. Is this the post you're looking for?
  12. Bit odd. The Olympics are still on for next year.
  13. For the winter?
  14. Me too @Marino. I've loads of admiration for people who work on their bikes. I'll have a go, but I'm crap with a spanner, and it takes me hours to do even simple jobs (despite the help on youtube). And if I get out of my depth I get stressed I'm going to @Westbeef it, and break something I'll regret. I'd rather pay someone to do the work and have free time to ride the thing instead.
  15. @TimR The clause doesn't mention lockdown, so shouldn't be used in the way you suggest.
  16. Like.... Lyme disease? :-S
  17. Here's my all-time favourite grave stone. They don't make them like this anymore.
  18. Did you buy personal accident cover as an extra when you took out the policy? Or was it thrown in as part of the package you bought?
  19. Cheers mate. Again, all the best for your wife.
  20. You're spot on. Tiggie's just trying to confuse us. Momentum is how far you take the wall with you.
  21. ATGATT.
  22. All it means is that they won't pay any part of your claim which was caused by covid. So your bike might get stolen. A few days later the police find it and let you know; meanwhile they put in storage at £20 a day cost to you. The day this happens, you test positive for the virus, so you can't collect it, and you can't find anyone else to get it for you. Seven days later, you're £140 down. In this case they're saying they won't pay the £140.
  23. What I wrote is a bit unfair. I bet you can have good fun by hooning around in 3rd and saving the the upper gears for when you want to relax a bit.
