Motorcycle Parking, would you be willing to pay?
Mickly replied to raesewell's topic in Motorbike Chat
Just looked it up, it’s a 49p transaction charge on anything under £5, they don’t advertise this at the pay and display machines though -

I’ve been forced to use the ‘JustPark’ App (coz the cash option is either out of order or otherwise not available) & found that when you go to pay, the amount is higher than that shown on the board if you pay cash - robbing bast*rds. -
I’ve had a similar experience, the charger in my metal bike garage runs off a plug in the utility room which has an RCD trip, last winter we had a power cut, I didn’t think to reset the RCD, so when I tried that bike in the spring the battery could hardly turn the bike over, being aware of the delicate sprag clutch I put the battery on charge immediately before using.

Yep, but starting with a relatively weak solution would probably be advisable -

Poor anodising can be removed (carefully) with caustic soda, leaving a great surface for painting, lacquering or re-anodising depending upon your ability. -
Very interesting, what a bunch of shysters, wonder if any of the main stream motorcycle press might be interested in this?

This is the reason I started looking hard at retirement, 1 guy I knew well all the way through my career was about retire to a remote cottage in Scotland with his wife and dogs - heart attack at the breakfast table took him out 3 months before. Another guy of a similar age started taking time off sick, transpired that he’d got Cancer of the spine, lasted 2 months from diagnosis, there were others as well, it was a bad year.

So I coughed up £90 for a new Quantum pump and strainer, fitting was a nightmare but I’ll spare the details except all the connectors fell off the end of the wires as soon as they were touched. Just got back from about a 5mile run on KT, no stuttering issues at all, even feels like it’s found more gee gees, involuntary 2nd gear wheelie off the throttle So hopefully it’s now all sorted

Ducati ST2 : Amateur Restoration Take 2

Having recently had issues with the fuel pump on my FI KTM ( the pressure was intermittent due to it and its strainer being totally bunged up with rust & sludge ), I learned a couple of things… one test is to remove the whole pump assembly from the bike drop it into a bucket of petrol, plug it in ( or provide a power source - dodgy because of potential sparks) and ensure it’s all working as it should - i.e it primes, there are no splits or cracks in the the pipework or inline filter (if it has one) also that the fuel filters are clean. On my bike the fuel pump should kick out about 100psi, however there is a fuel pressure regulator that bleeds off a lot of this to bring it down to around 48-52 PSI, so it might be worth checking out the values for your bike & see if that fuel regulator is working. -
I retired 7 years ago aged 56, 40 years service and made maximum contributions to a work place pension all through that time, also mortgage was paid off, it has flown by. I miss some of the social aspects but not the early starts & political backstabbing bullshit. I also fully endorse @JRH ‘s comment- I’m really busy, my theory is that family and friends assume that I’m just sitting around drinking tea, eating biscuits and watching daytime tv, so if anything needs doing I’ll be instantly available, there is a penalty to being reasonably proficient in DIY, spanner twirling, taxi driving & entertaining Grandchildren: how did they all cope when I was working?

H’mm, the accumulation of ‘stuff’ that I couldn’t do without ‘just in case’ that I have in my garage makes me shudder every time I think of moving

Who's got a quiet crash helmet?
Mickly replied to Simon Davey's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
+1 for the Nolan, I’ve got the same model & find its really good in all respects (although thankfully haven’t tried the crash protection) Also managed to fit my Cardo Freecom and speakers without much faffing, although the unit does have to sit quite far back due to the flip front. -
No idea how it got so bad, it was off road for a year before I got it, maybe it was stored with very little fuel in it allowing it to rust. Its got a filter ‘sock’ in the filler neck to stop rubbish going into the tank when you fill up but dunno how long that’s been in place.

Oh, yes indeed, and not being subtle about it

Best and worst present was a genuine Triumph zip through hoodie sent from eldest Son … Also the worst as it’s 2 sizes too small

The new filter turned up on Xmas Eve, but I wasn’t brave/stupid enough to try and sneak to the garage to work on it until today: Here is the new OEM Mahle filter next to the one installed. When I picked up the complete assembly a bit of black crap fell out of it and I could hear more rattling around when I gently shook it, this wasn’t apparent when it was wet with fuel, but now it’s dried out. Decided to remove the fuel pump from its housing to investigate further. Looks like we maybe have a winner - I’ll get a new pump & strainer on order, just need to decide if it’ll be a cheap AliExpress job or a much more expensive one with a lifetime guarantee.
