  1. Maybe he thought you were channeling your inner Scotsman?
  2. Probably expecting someone to kick off about something or other, seems to be the new normal.
  3. I've got a beard but pretty sure I'm not metrosexual. Also I'm not so sad as to do my shopping in a petrol station ffs.
  4. Pretty much a zombie thread and if the OP had passed using his cunning plan I'm sure he'd have been on here telling us all about it instead of deathly silence.
  5. So you've ridden in Somerset then?
  6. About par for the course when selling a house. Swear to God there's people who go looking out of sheer nosiness or for something to do in their miserable lives. The time wasters boil my head. Although I do have fond memories of my wife asking one such lady when her baby was due. Turned out she was a child hater and rather fat.
  7. I've ridden the Erskine and it's pretty bad in a wind. Never been on it when closed to high sided vehicles though. The Severn Crossings are equally bad and I imagine the Humber Bridge and Dartford Crossing can be "exciting" in a blow.
  8. Disappointing but as long as it does eventually reopen I'll not mind too much. I come that way fairly regularly when I'm trundling backwards and forwards to Northumberland and can't face the idea of yet more motorway.
  9. The engine is less stressed and theoretically will last longer.
  10. Generally I find winds don't bother me too much but crossing either of the Severn bridges in strong Westerly winds isn't much fun.
  11. I didn't do anything but my local dealer delivered it back home having hopefully done the required warranty work. They had it for almost 3 weeks but they knew I was away and wasn't in any rush. Son in law is over on Sunday to take it away for its secure garaging while I'm away. Military married patches don't usually have too many scrotes.
  12. We had a 10 metre sailing boat which we covered a lot of ground in. Really enjoyed it but it wasn't cheap to run. Insurance, marina fees and maintenance adds up to a tidy sum and this goes regardless of how much you use it. Once the grandchildren arrived we just didn't get the use so we sold it. I still regret it to this day 9 years on.
  13. My Guzzi dealer also deals in Royal Enfields and they aren't bad bikes to look at. There's a a guy (admittedly perhaps a bit of a knob) on a Guzzi forum who is constantly bitching about his Guzzi but forever singing the praises of his RE. Horses for courses I think.
  14. Technically a bike is required to have a Cat by law if it was manufactured with one and used on public roads. Whether it will be picked up on by an MOT testing station is another matter. Ditto if you get stopped by police for any reason and you are found to be without it maybe problematic. Finally your insurance may class removing it as an illegal modification and invalidate your insurance.
  15. What he said. Absolutely no requirement to have a car licence.
  16. It wasn't that much better in my youth 50 years ago. Being stuck behind some brain dead f**kwit isn't exactly new.
  17. My neck of the woods it's bonkers - some bus lanes are for motorbikes too but in others they are not allowed in them. Often the signs are hidden in the hedges as the council rarely trim them anymore so you take your chances. As for 20 mph Bristol city centre is all 20 mph and apparently the town centre moves no faster than when the traffic was horse-drawn.
  18. The absolute effing moron who decided to take his gin palace the wrong way on the maritime equivalent of the M1. Given a choice of hitting him or piling up the beach he was going to lose. He graciously gave way to be greeted with the 2 fingered salute as he went down my right hand side.
  19. Have to say my local area post office isn't bad.
  20. Oh well done. Light em up as it were.
  21. Happy birthday and enjoy copious amounts of cider. Just jealous as I'm now as dry as the proverbial witch's for the next few months.
  22. True but why the hell are the roads in such a dreadful state in the first place?
  23. Sound alright to me but I've been riding italian v twins for the last few years. Personally I prefer the Guzzi.
  24. Joining ship tomorrow afternoon but right now I'm heading off for a joint I know that does Belgian beer and proper satay here in Singapore. Two of my favourite things in one place. Limit myself to only 2 beers though as I'm officially working from tomorrow.
  25. As things are supposed to come in 3's that's no. 2. Hope No.3 isn't too horrible.
