  1. The issue with mechanical throttle locks is that speed will vary depending on road's gradient. I've seen people stating these ones are great however $145 is a bit too steep for what it does. I would prefer electronic cruise control instead although are more expensive
  2. You're absolutely right. A motorway is no place for small slower bikes. For night riding you would wear a hiviz jacket and a couple reflective sticker on the helmet won't go a miss either. There are newer ones that look dark grey during the day and become bright at night.
  3. I would repair it for you if you were closer. postage would me more expensive than the new box...
  4. Have a look here https://www.manualslib.com/products/Kinroad-Xt50qt-2-4140318.html
  5. Plant pots sounds like a good idea you can use the base for one and the lid for another. If disposing of, it is plastic so should be disposed as such.
  6. You will have different risks on both. Motorways faster vehicles around you, drivers play far less attention to mirrors. Drivers may not change lane fully when overtaking a bike. Safer asphalt (less hazards) fewer potholes. you can see further away on a motorway meaning easier to take evasive action if required, smoother bends which is nicer for rookies. Country roads A lot more fun to ride as they have more bends. more hazardous, sand, gravel, crazy sheep, dumb pheasants etc. You can find a car on the wrong side of the road when you come out or halfway a bend. narrow road means shorter distance to eventual hazards Riding alone on a country road can make you "invisible" due to sun glare, confusion with background (trees, bushes etc). Unless you're familiar with the road "reading" where the bends lead is harder. Road markings are more important than motorways to allow you to understand the layout. Which ones I prefer? by far the country roads You can have more fun at 40mph on a country road than 90 mph on a motorway. Something very important, in my opinion, is slow speed control. Learn how to make U-turns, left and right tight turns, left and right 90deg turns from stop. Control of a motorbike (whatever the size) at slow speed will mean better control at higher speeds. Something to avoid (no particular order): road markings metal covers ride too close to the middle of the road or the verge being anxious (if this ever happens, stop. get out of the bike, take a few deep breaths and resume). Never think, "If I keep going I'll be there on time." Rush will be your worst enemy. To keep in mind: Where you look is where the front wheel will go. When tired, stop and recover. If you can't avoid a pothole don't panic. Isn't as bad as you think. The friendliest thought is "I could have gone faster there..." Most important, riding a bike is about having fun and arrive safe.
  7. They are completely different things although most road rules are the same. In a car you're just sitting on a chair and don't need balance, a car have 1 brake pedal while a bike each wheel have it's own brake system (not counting the dual systems) A car you press the clutch with your foot and shift with your hand, a bike is completely opposite. 3 mirrors in a car, 2 in a bike Car have lots of tin around you, on a bike you're the tin Easier to reach the limits on a bike than in a car On a bend a car can have 1 wheel over a patch of oil and you get away with it. On a bike, 1 wheel over the oil and you're grounded. Same for sand, gravel, sheep etc. Bike are more fun to ride
  8. Started making a wheel lock for my trailer Pics to follow
  9. As @Fish says plus weight if you do long journeys, noise. Most modern helmets have removable padding to allow washing.
  10. Not wanting to be pedantic, however the metric unit you would be using is km/h Common problem in low speed control is that, myself included, we often forget to move the body outwards the bend to allow the bike to lean further.

Midge season quick answer – May to September. It greatly varies on weather pattern so this is not accurate. The time of the day when they are the most active is early morning and late afternoon. Have a read here https://outaboutscotland.com/midges-in-scotland/

May is the best midge season This year is south England for me.
  14. I once work on a site that the water pumps made the same noise.
  15. Not all meat eaters. I don't give a rat's furry arse about it
  16. Even sportbikeshop sells tyres. I never had issues either but last time I was looking for tyres for my car I end up getting 20k miles out of the crossclimate and michelin told me that I should raise the issue with the seller not directly with them. It is worth searching for deals on local fitting garages.
  17. got these delivered today https://giantpygmy.net/shop/index.php?id_product=62&controller=product As replacement for the cheap wire ones. They are lightweight and quite strong. The lantern was a bit more expensive than I was expecting but I quite like the dual functionality and the dimmable feature on the lantern mode. https://www.torchdirect.co.uk/camping-fishing/nebo-big-poppy-rechargeable-led-lantern.html
  18. looks like the Ghost rider's bike
  19. I strongly advise against buying the tyres and have them fitted elsewhere. Reason being that should something go wrong you're at the mercy of the online retailer to be willing to do anything about it. If you buy the tyres through the garage then the warranty is easily actioned. Michelin have a warranty process that can be actioned by the garage but not by the online retailer. Should you still want to get the tyres online mytyres.co.uk is a good place to have a look. Plenty of information about them. Once you have selected the tyres you want then a google search will return mytyres and possibly a couple other websites with a cheaper price.
  20. If riding with an open helmet, make sure you have your mouth shut at all times
  21. A place with more potholes than Scotland...
  22. An Amazon seller...
  23. That is what a chain lub kit does
  24. You can use dry silicone instead.
  25. Got on the shadow before 10am, went to Stoneheaven, Banchory, Ballater, Braemar, Perth then home. Arrived just before 4pm. Sunny, not very cold, except the Cairngorms which is always cold light east wind getting a bit stronger after 3pm. A great day for a 230 miles trip
