  1. It's only about 4miles for me Remy, hopefully work permitting I'll try and show
  2. As already said, get an Optimate charger and just leave it connected until you need to ride it. One of my bikes is permanently connected to one of these chargers, the battery is the original now 13yrs old and still spins up the bike no problem. These chargers do work
  3. Hi, it's only motorway if you want it to be. There some stunning b roads between Colchester and Nottingham a ride up through Stamford into the Vale of Belvoir onto Notts can't be beat, it's all down to time and planning.
  4. Ok! Gunthorpe Bridge is not a bad place on a nice day. Big car park, pub good food etc. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=gunth ... abnLYT8%3D
  5. VW are not alone on this scam I'll wage you. VW make some of the most sophisticated diesel engines on the planet, the other manufactures have nowhere near the R&D facilities at there disposal. What's the betting that the guzzling trucks and cars the American build don't blatantly break the law? I think they will have to rewrite the rule books on emissions over this. The regulators have constantly be rising the bar and the car industry up till now managed to get over it. When the biggest builder of diesel engines on the planet has to cheat to get over it then the bar has been set to high. Electric car anyone?! I think this will be the start of it.
  6. I'm from Notts Stu, l can't think of a place locally that would suite and be of interest on a weekend, there's MFN bike night which is good but that's a week day. http://www.mfn-club.co.uk/Bike_Night.html For a decent place for a bike meet and Central on a weekend l would say that you've got to be looking at Derbyshire or Squires.
  7. Hi, you need to make a mental note of matching the engine speed to the gear selected, just remember that motorcycle gearboxes are non synchromesh so the engine speed has to match the speed of the selected gear at the road speed your riding at. The clutch will aid you to a point, but the above is the always the way to go.
  8. Hi, would it not be easier to fit the complete engine and gearbox from the BMW and then hook up the final drive? Trying to match up that Ural gearbox to the BMW engine l fear would result in even more trouble.
  9. These are suppose to be a safety item, not in my books the amount of cars l see driving after dark with no rear lights but with bright lights at the front crazy!
  10. This might be of some help http://www.bestbikingroads.com/motorcyc ... _4958.html
  11. Syringe will be fine mate, marigolds might be in order to protect your pinkies, and by the way go to the loo before you start safety first.
  12. Happy birthday Bob enjoy your day
  13. Hi, if your new battery came with a new length of overflow pipe connect this to your syringe and draw out the excess fluid until the correct level is reached. Rather than tip the excess fluid down the drain why not empty it into the old battery which l assume your going to dispose of correctly
  14. I would say it's all down to your road positioning and the traffic around you, if your near to the curb and there's traffic behind you may need to let the following rider - driver know your intensions
  15. Hi, l here what your saying, but heating is something you can't skimp on, if we get a really cold snap there's nothing worse than having an under powered heating system. Unless you live in a new build with the latest insulation standards l would still go for gas
  16. Being an electrician l would go for gas every time, reason being gas offers a far more power and faster heat up time than electric.
  17. On my garmin, which is connected direct to the bikes battery, the cable has a fuse built in. with a weather proof cap so it can be changed if it were ever to 'pop'. is this fuse not enough? you can see it in this photo... just a couple of inches from the red 'positive' teminal. http://i.imgur.com/2kThCYu.jpg Nothing wrong with that at all, always be sure to fit a fuse with the correct amp rating as close to the battery as possible and l may add on the positive + connection.
  18. Just the same as a lock washer.
  19. I would say from what your saying that you might need to adjust volume on the headsets to make them louder, then turn down the volume on the satnav, phone and anything else you may have connected to get them all balanced and inline.
  20. Hi Mate, no matter what system your using if you do not isolate - cancel out the wind noise you will fail. In helmet speakers work well if fitted correctly, by that l mean in exactly the right place to your ears and you also need to use earplugs to cancel out the high frequency wind noise, also you need to have a helmet that is snug fit and dos not let in to much wind that will cause turbulence and noise, l use a cotton neck tube to seal up my helmet. Alternatively to helmet speakers you can use the noise cancelling in ear earphones. You can get a bespoke set made which are not cheap but really good or alternatively a set like this. http://www.amazon.co.uk/MEElectronics-S ... B0038W0K2K These are almost flat to the ear which makes them comfy inside the helmet. We use them all the time, for the money there as good as it gets l think. Again just be sure you fit the correct buds to suite your ear any wind noise getting in will render the units useless.
  21. Hi If money no problem then l would seriously be looking at this one http://www.sena.com/promo/20s Not cheap, but quality never was
  22. Ive done that, though the bike was at home. it had no appreciable effect on the battery. though this was a dedicated sat nav. left 'on' overnight. Most Sat nav's will go into a sleep mode after a while if no movement is detected.
  23. Home safe and sound great weekend, good to meet you all.
  24. Looks like being a hot wet sticky weekend no matter what the weather.
  25. Latest forecast for tomorrow http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?acti ... bury;sess= Looking at that forecast around 4pm Hopefully were on site and pitched up camp before that arrives. Apart from that predicted downpour the weekend not looking so bad
