Joe85 Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Took it for a ride to pick up the lad. Snapped a cheeky pic. Also removed the nav cradle and installed the quadlock, which was a bit of a faff. 7 Quote

Pie man Posted December 21, 2023 Posted December 21, 2023 Connected the optimate today, not been out on the bike since the beginning of October. 2 Quote

Davidtav Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 Took the new V Strom 650 for its first service. Still a bit breezy around. But all ok. I’m really liking this new bike. Probably going to try an aftermarket screen. Everything else good 2 Quote
S-Westerly Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 Chalked up another 110 miles on the Guzzi. Roads were good and dry although a tad windy crossing the Severn on the QE bridge. Really nice bike to drive and only 600 more miles to do before I can really wind it up. Washed it when I got home. So nice not to have a chain anymore. 5 Quote
Popular Post Gerontious Posted December 23, 2023 Popular Post Posted December 23, 2023 Oddly enough Ive not reached the point yet where having a chain is a pain. Its still quite the novelty after 21 years of being shafted. The belt driven experiment as a second bike doesnt really count. Bikes before 1997 were all chain driven - obviously. But as most of them lasted just a few years with me (the longest I had a bike was 6 years and thats the only bike I ever regretted selling - the TSS) I never needed to go through the pain and anguish of buying chains and sprocklets. My TSS... I so regret selling it. New owner destroyed it and almost himself. But, it looked just like this. 1982 vintage. 6 years old when I bought it. sigh. 10 Quote
Ian Frog Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 what did I do to my bike today? Nothing. Hardly gave it a thought lol. Although a bike out here in the Caribbean would be quite fun. Back after Xmas and hopefully we will have a couple of nice days. Cheers Ian 6 Quote

Tinkicker Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 Wandered out to the shed. Uncovered the VFR and fired it up. Because the weather was quite mild for winter, she started up pretty easily without the usual cold weather histrionics. Warmed her for 20 mins or so, till the cases got hot and the fan kicked in. Nice n warm under the bodywork. Covered her back up and I will see her again around begining of Feb. 1 Quote
Kenyun Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 I needed a ride out today after yesterdays massive Christmas dinner, not much traffic about so free to hoon around some twisties in Leicesterhire. The old Fazer and me today, have now clocked just over 185,000 miles together from new. A bit cold but the Fazer loves winter rides. 4 Quote
onesea Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 Late ride today, evening ride round local Christmas lights, as promised for daughter. Daughter loved her new lid and boots. She's still on her 50cc so I was on the CBR, not certain the Trophy would go that slow. 4 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted December 27, 2023 Posted December 27, 2023 Put some fresh petrol with stabiliser (top up fuel) in the bike, E5 as what was still in from the last ride in nov from a refuel of oct had started to die off as it had taken many attempts to try start the bike. so peeps 2 months my advice is the reliable date of even good fuel to work is without an additive's.... Quote
S-Westerly Posted December 27, 2023 Posted December 27, 2023 My manufacturer's guide says quite clearly that using fuel additives will invalidate the warranty. New engine designed for E10 so I'm quite willing to follow their advice. Last bike I us3d to leave it fuelled up usually with E5 for up to 5 months and never had a problem starting it when I came home. Quote

It is like comparing apples to oranges in the winter layup. Neglect your due dillegence on a carbed bike with modern fuel and you are in a world of pain. 2 1 Quote

Also I don't do winter layup unless it coincides with me going back to sea. 1 Quote
Simon Davey Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 Oh dear, I have carb's, I suppose that's a good reason not to have a winter break. 2 Quote
Throttled Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 (edited) This is what will I do to my bike tomorrow and the answer is... https://allyearbiker.co.uk/treatment/ Paid for as a Christmas present. That means, for the first time in a few years, mainly due to the pandemic, there will be a winter bike tour. Edited December 28, 2023 by Throttled 2 Quote

Someone's being a bit nit picky as riding a bike on an oil tanker would be pretty impossible and I doubt the company would pay for the freight. I ride it whenever I'm home regardless of the time of year so yes I do go out in all conditions. Not always because I really want to mind! Edited December 28, 2023 by S-Westerly 1 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 Tink is correct westy especially if your on older tech or don't have the luxury of a warmer space garage... most manufacturers give an assumption that you'll not use bike within a small windos with a possible E5, with full kids gloves and best hibernation route over a average outdoor wet, cold storage Even my most modern bike (2019) it first start after its short winter hib. In fact for various reasons of stupidity varying manufacturers even said changes of preload to a suspension is dangerous and will validate warranty westy so do you really read their liberal as bible? Id rather use Use common sense, research and experience. even when with different injection bikes or various ages they have been hit and miss.... Quote
S-Westerly Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 My bike lives outside under a cover. No toasty garage for it until I go away when it shares accommodation with my son in law's bike. Ran the Ducati on E10 most of the time without any issues. Intend to run the Guzzi the same. It is a new model engine though. Guzzi's first water cooled one so it will probably blow up or something spectacular anyway. 1 2 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 Same here but with all bikes varys from 2000-2019, carbs to inject with the best reasonable prep to them they all have to a certain degree trouble to start after a couple of months of a couple of prods to a full drop all fuel, clean out and start afresh... i really like motoguzzis for some reason even though ive never owned one...was so close to buying one (V7or9) to replace the 955i before the gsf i have now. im a year or so down the line with but if i was to suddenly need to change the gsf, the motog sel in the same green you have would be on my first list to try out...i happy to say out very jealous and hope you have a real trouble free time with the bike.
