We were doing this awesome road full of hairpins - this one and once I'd passed James and the car he'd been following, I had the next bit of road to myself, where the L10 follows the river from bend to bend along the valley floor... It's a glorious ride, the road was entirely mine and I rode it like a hero. Got back to the hotel, so frikkin pleased with myself. Parked up. Into neutral. Put the bike down on the stand. Should have put the stand down first. Suddenly stopped being pleased with myself. Jack and Paul saw it all. In their words, "and then you just threw the bike onto the ground." Sorry shouldn't laugh, sounds like a great day up til then. 1 Quote

By the time my feet hit the floor bike reached angle of no return and down we went. Slowly. No damage apart from to my ego which was dented severely especially on the 2nd occasion. Bike went down on other occasions too but had help in picking it up - icy slush on forecourt, gravel track, etc. I'm glad you and the bike are otherwise ok. Worst feeling ever. 1 Quote

Also toilets on other side of bridge which were handy. Quote
veracocha Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 I fitted a thunderbox (power distribution block) as my battery terminals were getting a bit crowded. Everything was fine except for my front and rear camera's (vantrue). That device insisted on a live feed for some reason. 1 Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Very nearly dropped it just sitting at traffic lights. A gust of wind caught me just as I was slipping it into gear. I rode down the motorway like a grandad.* It was an unpleasant journey. *I am a grandad but I don't usually ride so cautiously. 2 Quote

RideWithStyles Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 (edited) The one at Kendal is nearest to me...fairly regular route on the way through of my many loops near me. if i book a day off work to have a razz i can head that way but generally i never stop there if by myself (cos the the weirdos that go and stop there ) maybe with the wife if she wanted to have a break . Sunday razz by myself I don't generally head that way there unless i know my other routes are compromised and unless its reasonably off peak. Edited January 24, 2024 by RideWithStyles Quote
S-Westerly Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 I stop at Devil's Bridge to use the toilets there if I go up the West side of the country to get to Teesdale. Kirkby to Sedbergh to Brough to Middleton in Teesdale. Nice on a summer day. Not at this time of year! 2 Quote
S-Westerly Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 This morning the long awaited package from the USA arrived and my bike once again has 2 panniers. Had to pay over £80 in "fees" to get it though. 5 Quote

I've had bike bits from the States that were clearly labelled as motorcycle parts and they just went straight through. Quote
Joe85 Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 (edited) Pleased to discover that my M1000R insurance is 25% cheaper than the 1300GS. The refund from the insurer more than covers the new policy. Take delivery on Friday. Wohoo. Edited January 24, 2024 by Joe85 7 Quote

It was labelled as bike parts but it was also values as $350 which unfortunately put it in the dutiable (20% VAT plus 2% on the value) bracket. Government never misses a chance to screw you over. 1 1 Quote
