fifthwheel Posted July 2, 2020 Posted July 2, 2020 Hi all, looking to paint an old Kawasaki er500 1997. I know its not the right thing to do but I am looking to paint it red instead of black. Its a bit of an old dog so any paint suggestions would be appreciated. Doesnt matter if its not a bike colour, something like Ferrari red or Fire cracker red etc. Ford do a nice red on the Focus. Anybody repainted a bike red and been pleased with the result? Quote
Bender Posted July 2, 2020 Posted July 2, 2020 Toyota do a nice red, in the old days your choice would have been post office red Quote

fifthwheel Posted July 3, 2020 Author Posted July 3, 2020 Thanks everybody will check out the colours. Its hard to see the colours on the internet, they vary such a lot.I was at the paint shop yesterday but they didn't have any colour chips for base coat and lacquer.I might just go for two pack paint. john. Keep in mind that the final colour will also depend on the primer you will be using.I find it very strange that a paintshop doesn't have a series of sample sets for the several paint brands. The guys I've used are a small shop and they have a tonne of those, the hard bit is to choose the one you want.By the way, make sure you see the sample strips at sunlight not under the shop lighting. raesewell Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 Candy colours are notoriously difficult to apply consistently, so for a beginner might be a challenge. Quote

James in Brum Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 My first car, the red was ace and would have been better if not fifteen to twenty years old Quote
Throttled Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 I have been told that for best results, use a red primer as undercoat. Quote
fifthwheel Posted July 13, 2020 Author Posted July 13, 2020 Come on you lot, the bike's not rough enough to paint it with Hammerite Quote
S-Westerly Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 I use black hammerite for my side stand and centre stand which get a lot of abuse and paint chips off etc. Quote
