Tiggie Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 I've just found out about this after browsing the web, surprised I haven't seen it before. BMW have developed a completely maintenance free chain. It requires no lube or adjusting It's only available for the S100RR & XR at the moment apparently. https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/global/article/detail/T0314749EN/bmw-motorrad-presents-the-m-endurance-chain?language=en 1 Quote
Bender Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 Looked at that a bit back, did we not have a thread on it. Quote
Tiggie Posted January 9, 2021 Author Posted January 9, 2021 Not sure, I don't remember seeing it on here. I would probably still end up cleaning and lubing it! Quote
Tiggie Posted January 9, 2021 Author Posted January 9, 2021 found it My thread has a nice picture though 1 Quote

Tiggie Posted January 10, 2021 Author Posted January 10, 2021 Less than I expected actually!! £100. But its only available as an add on when configuring a new S1000 RR so add another 16K to that! Quote

WD-40 Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Seems a bit too good to be true. There will be some catch. If they really did make a chain that never had to be replaced would they not be doing themselves out of business? 1 Quote
Tiggie Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 @WD-40 Very true, I would assume it will have some wordage somewhere saying it needs replacing every so many miles. Reminds me of a story (outdated now) about how electric bulb companies could use a thicker filament and the bulbs would last 10 times as long if not more. Pretty clear why they never did that! This is a photo of a lightbulb that has been running continuously since 1901 Its in a fire station somewhere in California Quote
Liveware Problem Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 But what about the sprockets, they would need to be coated in the same ta-carbon, or they'd be worn down faster than usual by the super hard chain? 1 Quote

Is that the wax type lubricant that you heat up first? Do you not end up with loads of winter crap and grit sticking to the chain? Quote
Gerontious Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 (edited) Putoline chain wax is essentially the same thing. note what it says on the tin. Not something I would use on my bike chain... which does have O rings. Edited January 12, 2021 by Gerontious Quote
husoi Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 I will definitely not going to use that on my shaft drive Quote
Gerontious Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 me neither, when it comes time for a new chain I will be getting a tsubaki. Quote

I'll see your useless fact and raise you another one. I heard an incandescent bulb is most likely to blow when you're turning it on because for the first split before it heats up it's basically a short circuit. 1 Quote
