Yep.  Lost many well loved pets over the years.  You give them a pact.  You give them a loving home and expect the car crash at the end.  They give you unconditional love and at the end you have to repay that love by making the  most difficult decision you will have to make in your entire life... It is your pact with them and your duty.

Once, without recourse to external practitioners to do the deed and put an end to considerable and obvious extreme suffering, I had to take matters into my own hands.  Twenty years later I am still haunted by it..  But I  made the agreement.  "I would take your pain away and bear it myself I said to him. I had no idea what that would mean, but it turned out to be true.  I did take his pain away and gave it to myself.

New addition to the family as of today. My  name of Lord deathbringer the third is being ignored in favour of Lucy apparently.

I reckon my name suits her more

Wait...  Are you saying that your Wife doesn't chew gloves?

I think mine might be defective.

Don't like to break this to you but owners are always the last to know but your Lab has a very shifty look to him. Are you sure he isn't a secret politician?

This is tricky one for me, we always had dogs as children, I had a Husky, my best pal for years, sad but true, couldn't leave the house with out her, that is a truism by the way.

My daughter has a dog that lands on me for a few weeks every year, lover having her, little princes, but she's great fun.

Here comes the BUT !

Twice in the last couple of months we have had a canine conflict situation, which was not very pleasant,

First was a pub garden that we often walk to  along side canal, big outdoor space for families, etc, several  kids, probably 4 to 8 years old  messing around chasing a ball, medium size dog, not on a lead makes A for the ball as girl goes to pick it up, ends up nipping her, we where close by and made for the dog,  grabbed the collar and held the dog back, parents of the girl, rush over and comfort said girl, father thinks it was my dog, short unpleasant conversation until woman dog owner appears and acknowledges ownership, father has a go at women for dangerous hound, women, but he was only being playful you cant blame the dog stuff how was he to know etc.  Mother calms things down. I suggested he owed me an apology , which he did. But a lot of red mist flying around. Dog on lead, it would not have happened.

Second, Sitting outside another local pub, and I don't accept I have a drinks problem its just a social ting, my lady ordered some snack food, waitress brings it to the table, lurcher type ting appears and stuffs his face into the plate, me, punch dog on the head, owner thinks I overreacted, I explain what overreacting could look like,, waitress offers to replace food and does, guy comes out from pub, dog owner banned,   so if dog was on a lead, here it comes again , etc.

Oh, and on the walk back I get a proper ear full from "she who must be obeyed" for unnecessarily looking to engage in an altercation.

It's a dogs life, init ,

No dog should be off the lead in a social situation.  Period.  No matter how gentle they are are in a family situation.

Pic taken 18 months ago when she was a puppy.

She is double in size now and over twice the weight.  Imagine if we went to a pub and a handbag dog attacked her.  A quick bite in retaliation is one thing, a fling ten feet in the air then a good mauling, however deserved because we took her into a public place without her being under control is quite another.

Not that I kid myself.. I am a big bloke and that lead is nothing but an illusion to her.  But I try.....  I could not stop her.

Early morning walks in the fields and always on a lead because she does love to hunt deer...  The prey instinct is very scary.  Sometimes she looks at the two basset hounds she grew up with at 32kg each, with her prey eyes....

Good job she loves her dad, because if she decided I was prey, i am toast..... Ex bodybuilder or not.

Back to the first sentence.  She is the most loving dog you ever could wish for......

Not a dog issue, that’s an “almost all people are cvnts” issue.

Everyone is so damn lazy, self-centred and entitled these days. If I see we’re going to meet anyone while out walking I always pop my pair on leads - and they’re lovely and respond to command. But no one knows that. Given where we live it’s a rarity we ever see anyone.

Brother lives in Nottingham. Never puts his whateverpoo on a lead. Really riles me up that does.
