Went for a ride out with Connor ( Aprillia Tuono 125 ) and Molly on my pillon. Into the Peaks then down my favourite short thrash … Derne Valley Parkway… from Junction 36 M1 to Junction 37 A1M at Doncaster this stretch of road has roundabouts every 2 - 3 miles and is great for cranking the bike over under power. One of the roundabouts is bowl shaped, you have to pop over the lip on the way out eastbound ….
Dropped into J&S Doncaster… Connor needed to buy something …???   I now have a Cardo Intercom ….. …. Connor’s fed up with trying to work out where we’re going and what lane I’m about to switch out of to head a totally new direction without the use of indicators …

I baulked at fitting it to my Arai so it’s installed in my LS2 helmet …

The next ride should be fun ………. …..

Bloody hell it is heaving! Only been there in the winter when there's been maybe 2 other bikes there. Not sure I'd like it that crowded as I'm allergic to mobs.

Service, chain tension, new lock, … that’s 2 disc locks, 1 with alarm, and an Oxford chain and lock … and … it’s own CCTV camera with motion sensor…. A garage would be so much easier …

Need a new rear tyre, 2016 Suzuki V Strom 650DL, tarmac use only, something that won’t square off too fast … and inexpensive…

Any thoughts chaps …

Wouldn't use them myself but I believe Shinko tyres are a reasonable price and are quite popular in America for some reason.

very cheap, made there for that region off memory very much like dunlops which makes them readily available And cheaper than shipping across the waters, part of the yokohama brand if you from the car world.

any road tyre from your favourite brand, just stick to a tier a few down (a few generations old), older tech isn't shite back then and not wasted on the road now but much cheaper to buy, tyre will be freshly made if you get it from a reputable company.

so like michelin road 4 or pilot powers or continental road attack 3, avon 3dmx, bridgestone bt23 yada yada.

It's only a Sunny day, sos, I have given my-self the day off, heading over to Filey for a paddle, only taking two wheels.

Some times it's just got to be done, else, what's it all about.

The HUGE silencer can on the 2016 650dl vstrom …. There must be a replacement can, small easy to fit …. Noisy … easily changed out for MOT … ???

The sun was out it was dry so it would have been rude not to go out for a run. Also bagged some tags.

I thought I'd try a new navigation app - so downloaded Motobit. They have a special offer on the full version which is usually £25 but is £16 for this year for new subscribers.

I set a 60 mile circular route which proved to be a good mix of back lanes and faster A roads. It uses an American voice which is a bit annoying as the pronunciations are all wrong. I was looking to Rosette Lane when it meant Rossett Lane. At one stage there were two junctions very close together and I had both the American voice and an English voice both speaking at once. That was a bit odd. But overall I'm quite impressed with it.

It analyses the ride data and I can't see anyway to tailor that to the bike. The Bobber tends to go round bends rather easily because the weight is so low and the app tracked the cornering data as constantly in the hooligan range. Maybe it will learn?

Little yeller gets her first outing on the dirt in the field behind the house.  No rattles other than my broken ribs, they had a bit of a moan at all the shaking.

She is nice on the dirt, but the suspension struggles a bit with my 15 and a bit stone frame.  Even had her kicking up a few roostertails coming out of corners, mainly due to the sandy soil.

Followed by around five road miles around the village.  I do not totally trust her yet, so stay well within pushing distance of home.  She behaved flawlessly though.

As ever, an absolute hoot to ride.  Much fun to be had at sensible speeds.  Tiny like a moped, but with a very crisp and willing motor.  She is at her best around 40mph.

Helmet and gloves for scale shows just how tiny she is.  Not much bigger than a kids bike.  Imagine my 15 stone sat on it.....

As it’s a nice sunny day, ride out to “The Pig Place” near Banbury for an all day breakfast. Worth a visit if you are in the area. And it’s a tag. 👍

Royal British Legion Riders .. Ride to the National Memorial Arboretum… South Yorks group met at Woodall Services M1 … Molly my GDaughter and all year round pillion (as in the dark deep winter) came along for the ride … she throughly enjoyed the ride and the lamb burger at the NMA …

We walked up to The Wall and I showed her the names and told the stories of the 2 crews I had lost while serving on 23 Sqdn in the Falklands and 74 Sqdn Wattisham.  She took it all in as I tried not to fill up with tears …

Well I eventually collected it. Dealer forgot the attach the mirrors, which by all accounts is NOT part of the PDI process. :o Still I managed to half bed the new brakes before the clouds got heavy and I put it to bed.

We've got one like that too, just round the corner.

Sells stuff that's just about completely extinct in UK now, we love it !

Glad you are all enjoying your ride outs.  Sigh. Owning a few vintage motircycles sadly means that for every hour of riding means 12 hours of finding and curing yet another inexplicable fault.

The vintage bike owners vocabularly can be be summed up in one sentence... What the feck is it doing now and why the feck is it doing it?

Buy a RE Himalayan and get out and ride between fetteling …👍

Why I don't have a vintage bike. My interest is purely in riding it. Fettling brings me out in a cold sweat and a need to lie down in a dark room.

I love fettling and my 40 year career has been spent doing it, but even my patience gets tried sometimes.

VFR is not my friend at the moment.  Carbs are coming off yet again to replace those 30 year old float needles.  No point just doing the failed one, the others are likely not far behind and I would guarantee the same shennanigans next spring.

No matter how you check and double check, entropy is present in all machines and every single part of every machine, including those NOS parts on ebay.

They may have never been taken out of the bag, but they are still 40 year old parts.

There is no guarantee that a part that is working 100% today, will work tomorrow.  Everything on planet earth has an expiry date.

In effect, a 10 year old bike has collected 10x the potential for breakdowns that a year old one has.

My youngest bike is pushing 30 and my oldest is pushing 50.

You all enjoyed my DT175 and little yeller restorations and all the stuff going wrong.

This vid pretty much sums up fettling vintage bikes.

This afternoon I taught the missus how to ride little yeller.  I was pleasently surprised.  She did better than 75% of my old CBT students.  Only stalled the bike once.

I got her as far as starting and stopping the bike, putting it in and out of gear, clutch and brake control and riding around in large circles.  She loved it, but it was obvious she was starting to plateau and was tired.  Lesson over.

Next time it is changing gear and tighter turns.
