Mississippi Bullfrog Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 I have spent a lot of time and effort prepping a model yacht for painting. I have previously used an airbrush on model aircraft with good results but not done a boat hull before. I've used Rustoleum in a spray can to repair sailing dinghy foils and paint a model motor boat for my father-in-law. Those turned out fine. I've heard horror stories of Rustoleum reacting when a different colour is applied so I left it over a week between coats. The plan is a white hull, deck and cabin with red sides. All the white parts were painted and left for 10 days. Then just a light coat of red down the sides. Sure enough, the moment the red hit the hull sides the whole damn thing erupted in crinkles. So now I've got to rub the whole thing down and start again. I am not a happy bunny. 4 Quote

Then light spray of clear coat and hey presto, lovely crackle finish. Emailed to complain and never heard from them. 1 Quote
Fozzie Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Doing interviews... Interviewing for positions at work is just sapping my energy. So many people lying on their CV's, and you ask them to answer a few scenarios and they just come to pieces. Expert on PLC's and variable speed drives? Excellent, explain how you would repair and improve an old climate control system. Really basic, PLC switching a fan on and off based on a temperature sensor reading. I want one of two answers, a good answer, or a great answer. Replace the PLC for a modern equivalent and look at also upgrading the fan for a more efficient motor, good. Replace the PLC with a VSD drive accepting a temperature sensor and driving the fan based on a temperature setpoint, great. Relatively basic stuff, but no one got it... Not one. I get the impression people are copying other CV's of people who got the job. It's for an intermediate role, so maybe it attracts some chancers. But even the senior roles recently left me a bit deflated. One chap had a PHD and seemed to be unaware of some serious issues relating to power quality that affect every project. 1 Quote

S-Westerly Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Know the feeling well. I don't get to interview candidates but get stuck with ones who get through the system. Recently had a Third Mate who was utterly useless. Knew virtually nothing other than copy / paste but couldn't even get that right. Managed to get him dismissed in the end. Don't particularly like doing that but his area of responsibility was a dog's dinner and his replacement is having to work overtime trying to put it right. 3 Quote

I think I would replace the PLC for a modern equivalent and probably upgrade the fan for a more efficient motor. When can I start, can you give me a 50% advance on my first month's salary, and is it OK if I book the first two weeks off as holiday as I've got far more interesting things I'd like to be doing? 1 5 Quote
husoi Posted October 13, 2024 Author Posted October 13, 2024 Dishwasher broke down for 3rd and last phoking time Why TF a supposedly good brand compromise on quality and make good that instead of lasting enough time will go faulty in 5yrs? The fault can be summarised as there is a leak sensor that prevents the machine from working. Fair enough, it's a good feature to have. Then bosh makes the water pump in a way that you only need to look at it to know that it's a disaster waiting to happen Definitely will stay away from them as devil from the cross. 1 Quote

Mississippi Bullfrog Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 We have a dishwasher but rarely use it. It's simpler and quicker to do them by hand. The only time it gets used is at Christmas. Or if I have a cylinder head to spruce up. 1 4 Quote

Instead of removing the plastic from the bottles they just come up with something for me to curse the lot every time I buy some juice and have to cup the extra plastic that keeps the cap twinned to the bottle. Sorry really sad observation on this bit innit did they make the rule. Yet some how milk bottles seem to be exempt? How does that work? Let's make this rule, then oh no we need an exemption. Milk bottles the most commonly used bottle lets make that exempt. Quote
RideWithStyles Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Once again EU bureaucrats fooook up in splendid fashion, spends a fortune on the run up and after the decision (that would clear a struggling country's debt- oh but WTF would they do that?) and time to make a legal decision to a “thing” possible that doesnt actually have a real purpose of solving it yet at best merely side winds it to compounding another one that no one had a problem with in the first place…. but I’m a cynic opinion of any or the uppermost hierarchy… Quote
husoi Posted November 16, 2024 Author Posted November 16, 2024 Phoking moronic low life brainless tw@ts who run the stupid IDL Used to be as simple as. Take one photo from the photo boot, your driving license pay £5.50, wait 10min and you got yourself a useless international driving license. Now you have to go to a specific paypoint, the same documents plus they demand you to have your passport with you. No nonsense of a perfectly valid ID card. Oh no, we don't even know what the f@ck that is... Must be a passport because that's what we were told and we need to tick the phoking box. Because that's what they do. Idiotic box tickers 1 Quote

daveinlim Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Aaahh, bloody weatherman or whoever is in charge of the weather. Snow yesterday meant I took the car to work. Usual 40 minutes trip took 2 hours. This morning, back on the bike I got stuck behind a lorry for a few seconds that kicked up all the dirt and salt on me. My shiny new carbon helmet covered in salty gunk. Not a happy chap today. 3 Quote

It now looks as if I've been sharing a mud wallow with a wildebeest. Absolutely filthy all over. 2 Quote

Fender1515 Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Two weeks ago I was driving back from Buxton around 6pm, through the Peak district, proper thick fog, even 20mph felt risky, On the road down to Glossop, a car coming up the hill was struggling, has hazards on and crawling along, a range rover pulls out to overtake it, me 100 yards away, both of us had to emergency stop, we had a conversation!! If he had another brain cell it would be very lonely! 2 Quote
