Recommended Posts

Good evening all,

Got something of a quandary, I need to make some pipes that have crimped end's like this. What type of crimping tool dose that? Thought someone here might know

I don't think there would be much pressure, It's oil return pipe, it looks close to rotting. I was thinking about making it out of copper then electro plating with nickel/zinc. but your probably right the tool would cost more than the bike is worth. Part No9

bender is correct, its can be done at the smelts, foundry places, iron works would do it etc just to do one or a few pipes will be time consuming for so few so id be surprised if cheap...

just a normal pipe and a good collar clamp would do the trick.

but for me average metal works (machinist) is the way forward. ask a local precision engineers with the centre lathe to turn a metal pipe (solid or tubed) for it. solid would be nice as owt will do but depending on its outer and inner dimensions could be a lot of waste for recycle adding cost, its a piece of piss i wouldnt even use a cnc machine for it just for one or a few- just a manual one with less than an hour...but now a days i think they can scan the piece and let the cnc just do it with little input from the operator but that is very specialised.

then either off to pipe bending (some PE have them) or weld to and polish.

Would it not be cheaper / easier to buy one?

something like this

https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cbr1100xx-superblackbird-1999-x-usa-california_model7258/pipe-oil-return_15241mat000/

Not sure of your exact bike model but same pipe may be fitted to other models

Morning, yes my thoughts exactly, it's nice to improvise and make your own stuff but for the money, just get a new one.

Unless of course you are going into business and see an opening 😜

Hi, @Vic101,  according to Fowlers they have some in stock at £17.20 each, or if you have a Honda dealer near you just order from them.

My local Honda dealer normally gets parts next day for me. And saves on postage!!

Part no 15241MAT000

hmm...

This is the issue, been looking for these other 2 oil pipes as well, they could do with replacing, I can't find new one's anywhere, even second hand they cost loads a money. pre 1999 there all over the place. And found out you need to take the sump off to replace the pipe on the left pfft. but there's always a silver lining the exhaust looks good

someone has doused them in gear oil

That dose sound expensive, but options are always good.

if you dont have any other options....its the last resort i was suggesting. the center lathe and pipe bending is the cheaper route but finding someone will take abit of searching.

you could go looking at a honda jazz to butcher its parts 🤭.

wonder another option...for example race /drag teams would be worth asking which way they would go about it, different connectors tapped into the block and braided pipes id say.

I feel a visit to the local scrap yard coming on, see what I can rustle up.

I/We don't have to do much moderating lately, lets keep it that way :thumb:
