Popular Post Mawsley Posted November 6, 2024 Popular Post Posted November 6, 2024 Begrudgingly, I was won over to the ease and simplicity of Applepay. It always worked. Then I got an Android phone. Nothing ever worked properly. So, a new iPhone is on the way. Last night I wiped the Samsung. Bike got delivered. Jacket was donned. Off I went to stop for some fuel. Filled the tank, went to pay, Card 1 wanted to be inserted - well that's no damn use as I've no idea what my PIN is. If I ever needed to know it I'd look at the app...but there are no apps on the phone because it's cleaner than a clean thing in a bubble bath with a loofer. Tried a second card. Same bloody thing. Same bloody thing with all my cards. I looked at the woman, the woman scowled at me, her husband scowled at me, I scowled at my collection of cards on the counter. "You'll have to transfer the money," he said. "How," I replied. "I don't have any of my details and my phone doesn't have any apps." "You'll have to ride off and be reported for absconding then"...and I swear he was almost smiling. My world-famous placid demeanour was about to give way to a slightly more grumpy version of Dave. Then a bloke said, "Don't worry mate, I got you." A biker. A Gixxer rider. Max gave me his name and number and I promised to refund him later. He told me the same thing happened in the same garage to him a few week's back and he got a £60 fine from the owner in the post after he rode off. What an absolute belter of a bloke. I'm blown away. Seems like an age since I last heard of a biker helping another biker, and it's the first time I've been the recipient. What do we reckon a decent thank you gift should be? Rum? Wine? Roses? 15 Quote
husoi Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Ferrero Rocher? Some of those chocolate boxes with rum? 1 Quote
Simon Davey Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 That's a legend right there. Good job they're small tanks. 1 Quote

manxie49 Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Good to see that the old biker code about helping one another out still exists among some of us. 1 Quote
Blackholesun Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 That’s quality but there is literally no difference between Apple Pay and google pay 1 Quote

The Samsung has been shockingly shit since I got it three months ago, constantly not doing things - or doing things it wanted to do. It changed the bank card I was paying with on Sunday as I was paying. Factory reset and full backup reinstall did nothing to set things right. It's been abysmal. In all the years I've had an iPhone I've never experiences glitches like it. Quote
JRH Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 I have used Samsung and google wallet on my phone with no issues at all. I also use the physical cards so I remember the pin if I have to use them. I usually have more problems with the iPad not doing things than the Samsung phone. Quote
Yorky Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 I think the "Apple vs Android" debate simply boils down to what you are used to using. There are plus and minus for both. 1 Quote
bonio Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 What a legend. Roses, mate, for sure. The ones with the shiny green wrappers are best. 1 1 Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Great to hear of a biker coming to the aid of a fellow biker - and an example of trusting a stranger. The Z fold is a lousy bit of technology. But that's nothing to do with Android vs Apple - it's just that Samsung built a dud and they won't admit it. 3 Quote
Bender Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Nice when folk are nice, I do try to be helpful when ever the need arises. He probably glad to just get the money back , you could get a Costa g or Starbucks gift card even the email type you can just screenshot the qr code and send it, I've done that a couple of times. 1 Quote
S-Westerly Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 I had a Apple Mac and bloody thing tried to take over my life. Got rid. My Samsung Android S20 is absolutely fine. I think it's just what you find. Quote

I cannot be certain, however if you leave contact, details reg plate etc, I don’t think they can “fine” you. Particularly if you go back and pay or arrange transfer in good time. Most garages have a failure to pay form that gives you fair chance to return and pay - don’t ask how I know. https://www.paymentsolutionguy.com/payment-issues-uk-petrol-stations/ The least you should do is ask to see the garage policy on it, which they will be obliged to have. 2 Quote
bud Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 What a nice guy. It sounds like the garage owner is a bit of an arse. 2 Quote

But this, there was never any alternative other than bank transfer or driving off. And it was clear he wanted me to drive off. He's banned again. 1 Quote

Fiddlesticks Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Was on a remote Scottish island last week. They decided to switch off the power for an entire day. Cash only, anywhere that was still open. With Ed Miliband's new green energy policy this could definitely be the future... 2 1 Quote
Simon Davey Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Yeah, can you imagine using cash to pay for things..... 2 Quote
