  1. Clean the plugs and put them back in warm. A minute or two over a gas ring should do the trick. Second thoughts, put new plugs in, and check all the leads. When you park up your bike, fill the fuel tank. Safer and less chance of problems. New plugs solves so many problems
  2. The point of the restriction is to limit what you ride to a 250cc bike or equivalent. If you restrict a 750 to the power output of a 250 you will have a very odd machine, bit like putting a 250 engine in it. A reliable, predictable delivery of drive is important for the handling of a bike. There are bikes out there , kawasaki's 250 ninja for example, which are designed to be what they are. The other way around the power restriction is to pick a bike that has high torque and low power. The Vtwin engine is an ideal candidate for this. Simply put , torque is acceleration and power is top speed. A restricted Vtwin of around 6oocc will still deliver 100mph plus and yet still retain it's torquey characteristics. Which is the fun bit. It will have a predictable delivery and so be easier and safer to ride. Don't pick you bike on prettiness. It won't feel so pretty when some youth on a 250 ninja passes you in the twisties or some old throbber leaves you for dead at the lights I hope this makes sense to you
  3. The statement "I had the oil changed" is probably your main problem. If you can't undo a bolt and use a funnel, you're not going to be able to describe the fault or understand the reply
  4. WD40 is a dewatering fluid and light lubricant. You need a dedicated penetrating oil, something with graphite in it. Stud extractors work. Can be used in conjunction with an impact drive. Otherwise it's off to your local engineers and have it spark erroded. And don't be trying to superglue a bolt head on will you Most bolts , studs etc ,on a jap or european bike will have a thread lock solution applied to stop them vibrating loose. You need to overcome this, not just friction and corrosion
  5. Try Maplins. Lots of electrical/electronic/computer stuff on their site. They do allsorts of hobby stuff too
  6. Some have a micro switch on the clutch lever, mine has, so you can start it in gear, check there too
  7. Did you top up with water? It needs a 50 50 mix antifreeze and water, (coolant). Too little atifreeze will cause overheating. It's a simple process of illimination, the coolant needs to flow round the engine and return to the matrix (radiator) to be cooled by passage of air. A kinked hose, a blocked or faulty thermostat, a blocked matrix, a faulty pump, will stop normal flow. The pressure needs to be maintained above atmospheric, to stop the coolant boiling, so check cap and look for leaks. Daft time of year to be overheating
  8. Damage is easily spotted, wear isn't. I likes a cheap rat to contrast with the bling starship. It is what it is and that's all it is.
  9. You can also use spare brake fluid if you're in a rush. Beware solvents on brake parts as they can contaminate and or damage
  10. The circumference of the earth at the equator is 22,000 miles, so this bike has done that 2 and 1/2 times. Needs a very thorough check over by some one who knows what to look for. Might be fine, might need work doing. Price up new engine , frame and wheels just in case
  11. When I did parking we ignored bikes. Ask a member of the the local enforcement team. But why is this in clothing?
  12. Flop some silicone over the area. Comes off easy enough if it needs to be removed
  13. Yes yes. Clean the plugs. Their condition can tell you what's happening in the combustion chamber. Before you start stripping carbs and getting out of your depth, run some carb cleaner through the fuel system. My favourite is RedX but there are lots. Do what it says on the tin/bottle
  14. Choke is just that. It chokes off the air. Your fuel intake remains the same and so it runs "rich". This causes the spark plug to get covered in carbon. This is the carbon from the hydrocarbon fuel that cannot burn due to lack of air by being choked. This deposit builds to a point where it interferes with the spark that ignites the fuel air mix, giving poor running and mis fires and all sorts of hicups. Eventualy the plug gets wet and the engine stops. All parts need to be well maintained. A kink in the choke cable will cause knock on problems that will also need to be fixed as well as the choke cable.
  15. It's cold out there, is the carb icing up? This myth about pulling muck from the bottom of the tank on a gravity fed system cracks me up. Where is this muck on speed bumps or when you brake. Problems arise through air locks and things gumming up as they dry or water being all that's left and freezing
  16. When you get them sorted can you cook me some doughnuts
  17. Go for chrome vanadium spanners and sockets. Nevermind the make, check what they're made of. Check the toolkit that came with the bike and upgrade the spanners in the sizes they gave you. Sets are ok to start with but you get lots of sizes you'll never use. Include A pencil type tyre pressure guage, a foot pump, some sort of battery charger, washing up bowl and some cheap paint brushes for chain and general cleaning/lubing . A little funnel for topping up oil and battery fluid. Security chain, pinlock, and AA membership can be added to your christmas list
  18. Rub it all over and sunbathe, terrific tan
  19. It's usually a dirty / rusty bulb housing, unless some thing has rubbed with vibration and is broken or shorting
  20. The moisture problem arises with old fluid. Brake fluid absorbs water over time. So bleeding/flushing with new brake fluid should be all you need to do.
  21. Have read, waited , considered, reread, and still don't understand You may just have got more used to the bike and are cornering harder. I cannot imagine how it is possible to steer a bike without moving the bars. The fact that it now feels like a bike you were used to may mean that you're used to this one. If the bars are jiggling about in a corner then a steering damper may help.
  22. Component failure is always a good time for an upgrade
  23. So what's not in a Haynes? Follow the book. Shout when stuck.
  24. There's a complete restoration thread for the superdream on here.
