  1. Thanks @Stu It does have a gasket. There was a little oil in the air box and there is a vent from the generator cover into the air box which made me wonder.
  2. Hiya good folks of TMBF I have a new to me 2002 BMW F650GS single spark that refuses to start, as part of the diagnosis I have removed the generator & a good quantity of (rank) oil has spilled into the garage floor - is this to be expected, or should it be dry? Ta & expect a shot load of more questions about this subject
  3. I have absolutely no superstitions and it hasn’t done me any harm so far …. Touch wood!
  4. Have a look at this thread, it might help

  6. Had a chat with the nice ladies on the Bikesure stand at Motorcycle Live about adding another bike to my policy, unfortunately the company I’m with don’t do multi bike policies so I’ve got to wait until it’s up for renewal and do it then to avoid all the costs of changing horses mid stream.
  7. New battery fitted, all is good Good job as it’s going to Suttons in Tamworth to have a service item completed that should have been done 2 years ago, a part wasn’t included in the service kit from Triumph so they said they’d get in touch when it arrived & we all forgot They’re having a refit and found the part in their stores area with my details on it, gave me a call & asked me why As it’s the hub nut for the single sided swinging arm they obviously didn’t grease the hub as the nut has to be replaced when it’s done. FairPlay to Suttons, got it booked in foc with no argument.
  8. Many of the above plus: Quick bikes Itchy boots Barum Engines ( mostly cars ) Bike World Lee Johnston Midwest MX & some I would never admit to !! BTW, I’ve stumbled across ’Dirty Garage Guy’ who seems obsessed with Delboy’s garage and just slags him off all the time.
  9. It’s gotta be the battery. This morning I did as suggested by @Stu i.e. Attached a multimeter to the battery, at first it read 12•85V, I switched the ignition on which lights up the dash, driving lights & primes the fuel system… it dropped to 11•35V, then I hit the start button and it span over once and stopped ( Instead of just whirring ) & it dropped to 8•65V. On reflection the heated gloves probably did for a dying battery. Thinking about why the car batteries wouldn’t start it without the engine running, I reckon when it was 1st tried and failed it probably stopped at the point where it needed the most power so needed more grunt to overcome that. Fingers crossed that the Sprag clutch hasn’t been damaged. Picking up a new battery tomorrow
  10. Used the campers vehicle battery & started its engine, the bike has now started - so I think the battery is the culprit, it is 7 years old !!
  11. Tried the camper battery & all it would do is cough once then stop every time I hit the start button, it also did the same using the battery on the Disco
  12. I’ll try jumping it off the campers leisure battery tomorrow without the battery connected & see if that does it.
  13. Ta, Funny enough the light went green minutes after fitting it, but still just a click, I’ve disconnected everything except the charger & I’ll have a go in the morning.
  14. After fitting the heated gloves last week, I’ve eventually got round to trying them on the road, only to get a click when trying to start the bike, now before I go down a rabbit hole of duff battery & dodgy connections, I tried to start it with the Optimate attached, should this have given it enough ooomph to start or not coz it’s only a trickle charge?
  15. Why pay £1k’s for a bike & more for training, insurance, tax, kit etc when for £300 you can get an electric scooter with no extra costs except for a black hoody & a scarf to cover your face & you can charge it at your parents & at work !!
  16. Do you put it in an album or on display somewhere?
  17. Had some fun with fitting my new Gerbing heated gloves today. Took the front cover off the tank, fitted the link lead to the battery and lost one of the edge clips down into the tight recesses under the tank and to add insult to injury the bloody gloves wouldn’t work !! So … after much head scratching ( & reading up on line ) I realised that although there was an inline fuse holder, there was actually no fuse in it & there was a selection provided with the gloves, so once the correct fuse was identified & fitted, the gloves worked I then tried to search for the missing edge clip, lifted the tank, took out the battery & removed bits of bodywork, no joy so started reassembling it only to find out that one of the battery terminal bolts had decided to do one !! Gave up looking and procured a new bolt, edge clip and finished the job … as I was putting the bike away I spotted the missing bolt on the drive cunningly camouflaged the same colour as the block paving… god I love working on bikes
  18. I have finally got off the sofa and got some tags: Wild Card: Mythical Big 5 Equine Bird Just as @Hoggs thought she was up to speed with the scores
  19. I once managed to drop the back wheel of the Speedtriple down a ditch at the side of a very narrow road doing a 3 point turn having missed a tag … I was very lucky to have retrieved the situation without needing any help, which was just as well as I hadn’t seen any traffic for ages & it was in the middle of nowhere.
  20. Not at all, arrest them & prosecute them, not just shoot them coz you think they’re guilty.
  21. Itching to shoot an un-convicted suspect, he is NOT the law.
