  1. I’m in the midst of sorting out my Trophy engine issues & have got to the point of measuring compression. I have a question about this process - I have a compression tester & on the 1st cylinder when it first cranks for a few revs the gauge shows 125psi but when immediately cranked again it goes up to 150psi, after that it won’t go any higher, which reading should I be using?
  2. So the apparently the parasitic drain was a complete red herring due to my incompetence in identifying that the charger was still plugged in and measuring the health of the battery thus drawing current There does seem to be an intermittent fault though, but at the moment it’s working so I can start testing compression.
  3. Happy birthday young ‘un
  4. Next update… Having got the engine back in the bike & oil / water tight I need to check the compression & make sure the work I’ve done has worked. I have the compression tester but hit a problem - the plug socket (middle) I have is 18mm and the tube for the compression tester wouldn’t fit through it, also the compression tester attachment ( bottom ) is 19mm So I bought a cheap set of box spanner’s from Machine Mart for £10 Then I found that the 19mm box spanner wouldn’t fit down the hole After a bit of work on the bench grinder in now fits And the tube fits through the box spanner So all should be good to start testing…. Except ….. although I made sure the battery was charged a couple of days ago I could get no life out of the bike - I fitted the smart charger and it showed that the battery was low & needed charging I took off the negative battery lead and but my multimeter between it and the battery, low and behold there’s a 125 milliamp parasitic draw ( it has no accessories that might account for this ) so now to try and find out what’s going on, watch this space .. or not
  5. I’ve been to Knockhill a couple of times & luckily had great weather but it is a bit lacking in well.. anything apart from the track, a bit like Mallory.
  6. I’ve spoken to his widow several times since it happened, apparently his struggles were known within the family but he refused to get help & insisted he could sort it. I’d spoken to him a few times in the lead up and had no inkling of what was going on inside his head, he seemed full of optimism for the future ( holidays etc ), if he had told me I wouldn’t have had a clue what to say in response that might have made a difference, people are encouraged to talk about their mental health but what could you say in response that his family hadn’t already said?
  7. I think motorcycle helmets have considerably more features / aspects to consider than flotation devices / life vests … Top Trumps anyone?
  8. Neither bike related One was to be expected. The other was absolutely not .. guy I knew hung him self in the back garden using the washing line & kids swing … 56 years old & hard as nails.… I have no words
  9. Checked my car reg on B’ham ulez site & it says no charge as it’s a hybrid … no it’s not but who am I to argue
  10. I love the thought of an ‘occasional’ wife much better than a constant wife or an ex wife
  11. Fitted Beowulf Radiator and oil cooler guards - quite pleased with the look & these days the roads are so rough I reckon the protection is justified.
  12. Nope, I think it’s shit, really taking the piss
  13. Off eBay from America - the usual places are all out of stock, I had to search for ages and waited until it popped up.
  14. The Speedtriple’s lair It’s well ventilated. Got a locking wheel bar, shelf for tat & I’ve run electric to it and installed a battery minder. Also good for hiding stuff from the Missus as it’s full of big spiders 🕷
  15. Yeah & don’t forget my massive bonus for my towel tag !!
  16. We are asking all members to act now by signing the ‘Bikes in Bus Lanes’ petition. The petition is on the official Parliamentary Petitions website and will take up less than a minute of your time to complete. • Follow the link below: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/614294 • Click on the green “Sign this petition” button. • Enter your details and then click the green “Continue” button. • You will then receive an email with a link that you must follow to confirm your signature on the petition. • In addition to signing the petition yourself, please ask someone else (e.g. a family member, friend or work colleague) to do the same. They don’t need to ride themselves; they just need to support your request to have default access in bus lanes. It may help to point out the advantages of bikes being in bus lanes (i.e. not taking up space in other lanes). Signing this petition is important and can make a real difference. Colin Brown is pushing for a meeting with the Department for Transport (DfT) to discuss the detail of how such a policy can be introduced. Colin will be highlighting the Petition and noting that the Government will be obliged to formally respond when we break the 10,000-signature target for a Parliamentary response. We are looking for a meaningful result, rather than a formulaic brush off. Wales and Scotland could not be specifically listed on the petition due to the devolved nature of transport policy. Northern Ireland already permits access to all of their bus lanes. If we get a positive result for England, it will assist our case in making the same arguments in Wales and Scotland. Please sign the petition whether the outcome will help you as an individual or not. We need to get this petition over the line for the collective benefit of all riders. Thank you for your support. 17. Pfft.. light weight.. wanna get out on it rather than cleaning it and drinking beer
  18. You’ve screwed up .. you have a look at my bunch of crashers
  19. I’m not sure how many mpg I get from the mighty Speedtriple…. I only care when I’m getting short of fuel, on a recent trip I noticed that the low fuel light was on & the dash said 15 miles left ( Shows that my concentration was on other things ) By sticking to a steady progress I was able to get to a fuel stop with a predicted 25 miles left
  20. As you ride a Harley, just wear your ‘cut’ wrap around shades, wallet chain, bandanna & park where you’d cause the most inconvenience.. don’t forget to stare into the distance & practice your sneer & you’ll be ok
  21. Home, but might have lost it on any of the last couple of ride outs.
