My brother has owned an early 748 for many years now and they are a fantastic piece of kit. make sure what you go to look at has a good maintenance record that belts have been changed regularly. If you are going after one of the limited edition ones check it for authenticity as there are a lot of basic models done up to be what they are not. The only thing the 748 lacks is the top end of the 916 but the mid range grunt is the same just ride the wave. If it is looked after it costs no more than any other superbike but its not a bike just to ride then stick in the garage until next time to go out, it will need checking looking after. Clutch slave cylinder is a known weak spot but that is an easy change with an oberon cylinder. They can suffer from electrical issues and reg/rec failures and fuel pumps issues but easily fixed and a bike getting on for 28 years now is bound to have the odd problem. The 748 is a stunningly beautiful work of art and so small compared to other sportsbikes. Buy the best you can afford. You will have highs and lows but hopefully the highs will win but that comes with owning a Ducati.
